Days filled With lessons, club meetings, Friday night socials, the crowd gathering for cokes after school-homework, report cards! These highschool days Will forever bring back happy memories but over these memories will remain the shadow of the dev- astation and destruction that War brings-War which thrusts upon young people understand- ing and experience far beyond high school years. As We take our places in adult society and enthusiastically assume the responsibili- ties of full-fledged citizenship, there is a mis- sion for us to perform. Many of our classmates have fought to Win the War, and our genera- tion must use all its resources, Wisdom, forbear- ance, and patience to Win the peace. ln the kind of peace We succeed in Winning rests the happiness and security of future graduation classes. We must secure for them as Well as for ourselves a lasting peace in a tolerant, free World so that once again high school days will be truly carefree and happy, and the horror of War Will be a topic read about in history books --not a grim reality to be bravely lived through. As We stand on the threshold of What promises to be a brighter tomorrow our hearts and hopes are high. ,...7... ,Wg M n 7', :f is AN A 'gi 1 m ,- if A 3 1 Q S 4 4 352- . t. .W K f x ri.: 5 A 2 A . TO THE GRADUATES I greet this graduating class with the realization that you have before you a tremen- dous adventure -the great adventure of life. How you live that life and the role you play in it depends to a great extent upon you. You are living in a time of great crisis, not only in our own country, but also in the world. The past four years has been a time of turmoil, of war and destruction. You must build for the future out of the rubble of the past, preserving that which is good and building a better world than we have ever known. A world inf which people can live in security and de- cency 'as free men. As Franklin D. Roosevelt has so 'aptly put it, The American people have a rendezvous with destiny. You are a part of that destiny. That is your challenge. I know you will do your part. Sail fast, sail fast, Ark of my hopes, ark of my dreams, Sweep lordly. O'er the drowned past, Fly glittering through the sun's strange beams. Sail fast, sail fast. ga... c wwf MQW wwww- '- 1' S af .Q UFFIIIE .m if X? Sometimes We think that We shall forget the entire faculty the minute We leave school, but we really couldn't, not even if we tried ever so hard. There are too many things that are part of us that they've had their share in. No, We'll always remember them and they will remember us, too. We couldn't forget. We've given each other so much. From freshies who don't know where their gym classes meet on Monday to seniors who have difficulty in arranging their programs, all Cal students are familiar with the sympathetic advice given to them by their counselors. Yes, you can be sure with a school as large as Calumet and an enrollment in proportion, a lot of counseling is needed. The silent corridor, deserted between classes. CLEAN-UP EUMIVIITTEE Clear the Way for Victory Day was Cal's motto in the annual Clean-up, Paint-up, Plant-up campaign. Under the able direction of Dorothy Gorman, the Clean-up com- mittee organized the neighborhood. Shirley Weber headed the art committee, Charlotte Kennedy was chairman of the grammar schools' committee, Mary lane Gates under- took the planning of the dance, and Margie Mathes headed the publicity. Besides salvaging materials vital to the war effort and helping to make the school a more pleasant place, the Clean-up campaign had its social events which included the dance, an assembly, and the crowning of a king and queen. Tons of paper and scrap iron were carted, carried, and lugged by loyal students eager to help in replenish- ing the diminishing scrap and paper supply so vitally needed. Our girls have been busy putting in all their spare time in mak- ing bandages, knitting sguares, and selling War bonds at our bond booth in the first floor foyer. The Polish soap drive, the gathering of milkweed pods which are used in making life jackets, and the collection of Warm clothing for the Russians, are among the many outstanding tasks to which Calites have so Whole-heartedly contributed. The Girls' Service League has done a fine job of keeping our servicemen supplied with letters. BASEBALL As the Temulac goes to press the baseball season is still in its youngest stages. The lndians have played only three practice games, Winning two and losing one. Led by co-captain Marty Se- bastian, second baseman, and Ray Krahn, left fielder, the team combines clever base running with a fast breaking infield that clicks with clock-like precision to achieve success as a Winning baseball team. To be eligible, these girls must have excellent or superior grades in posture, and approximately twenty-five of these lasses compete in the finals. Three final places are awarded, and this year, Gloria Granholm, Anne De Forest, and Gloria Rosinslci were tops. Several of these girls are chosen as flower girls to lead the graduates into the assembly hall on graduation night. Although the girls have no swim team or club at the present time, the pool is always a scene of great activity When it is turned over to them. Splashing, churning water, cries of mock distress, and often the rhythmic sound of the more serious ones chugging steadily up and down, bent on doing so many lengths before the period' is over. Almost every girl at Cal can swim. Cal girls as Well as boys have sports in Which they participate. They take part in volleyball, basketball and soccer tournaments every semester. There are inter class events and the Winners of the tournaments are the all-star teams of the school. E The gym is adequately furnished with all the necessary equipment to help keep the girls in shape A few gym periods are spent each Week on the obstacle course. When the course Was first started the gym echoed With creaking bones but now the limber appendages cause no trouble in the least. That's What they said about the class ot February, '-45. This Was true and yet, as Bob Enroth, class vice-president, said at gradua- tion, You must remember all those stories about the best things being in small packages. Yes, there were a lot ot good things in that class. By the time graduation rolled around, many of the boys had lett to fight in the service ot their country, among them, Dick lohnson, president of the class. ln this group also were loe Reid, Paul Walsh, Von Pruitt, and a number ot others. lt was only a remnant ot the actual class who were there at Cal on that night in lanuary but those Who were there were so very proud ot those absent and their thoughts were with them. A COMMITTEES There's always a teeling ot excitement when the graduation committees are being chosen. This one Wants to serve on the Prom committee and that one Wishes to have a hand in the com- mencement planning. But as that day ap- proaches, many ot us are skeptical as to Whether the outside World affords as many opportunities as We had thought. We are sad to see so many of our class- mates depart tor the armed services, some perhaps never to return, but we have ac- cepted this necessary interruption in our daily lives in the true American spirit. Our motto has been Carry on and We shall, until peace reigns again in the world. COMMITTEES Graduation committees! Magic Words that mean, lt Won't be long now! Words that mean deciding on the place and date ot the prom-and the darling invitations. Words that mean more serious problems, such as preparations tor the momentous day itself and the ceremony of graduation, longed for and yet dreaded by many, lout always ot supreme importance, for that night, of all nights in the lives ot the grads, is theirs alone. ln Iune, only three committees Were chosen to plan for the great event. WithlMrs. Gwen Hulten- schmidt advising and supervising, the Ternulac staff has been working these past few months writing, cutting, and pasting, and the photography staff, under Mr. Edward Hazleton, has been busy in the new dark room printing and developing. Now, with a sigh of relief, we present the '45 Tem. Their names are I-larry Egan, Torn Curtin, George Babcock, Ken Larn- bros, and Ralph Gabric. So, hats off to these kids in Coveralls-the boys behind the tootlightsll! Whoopsl There they go, Cal's busy little brownies behind the scenes. x7i X , Q, STAEEHANDS These boys belong to one of the hardest working gangs ot fellows in dear old Cal.
