Cn a Tuesday in May, 1939 the Civic Room presents a gala appear- ance. A long table. resplendent with lace cloth, dainty china, gleaming silver, and tall lighted candlebra stands at one end and on chairs at the opposite end sit ladies in elegant spring frocks and bonnets. To and fro Hit lovely lassies, short skirts swirling. short curls bobbing. The Senior Girls' Council is giving a tea. And who are the guests? asks our inquiring reporter. Mothers of graduating seniors, explains Elaine Olsen, president of the Council. We always entertain them. 4 A And who pays the bill? demands the reporter. We do, Elaine answers. With the profits from the Cireen Hop. ii May any senior girl be a member of this Council? is the next question. No, indeed, Elaine answers, emphatically this time. Only girls who receive sponsoring votes from at least ten of the members of the faculty . . . And now. please. excuse me. for I must greet the guests and announce our program of entertainment.

Keplmrt, Best, Bacon Precin. i22l THE HOME MANAGEMENT CLUB This club sponsors tours to such exhibits as, for example, the Chi- cago Lighting Institute where, during a recent visit, the members saw a demonstration in home lighting. and to the Spring Style Show Where Miss Lapp, of the School Sewing Service, introduced them to intriguing l939 fashions in feminine apparel. But its activities are not confined entirely to self-improvement. lt also makes contributions to the Children's Aid Society and to various hospitals. When the American Home Economics Association, with which the club is afliliated, convenes in the vicinity of Chicago, delegates from Calu- met attend and exchange ideas with members from other schools. To be eligible for participation in the club's activities one must belong, or have belonged, to a Home Management Class. Dues total twenty-five cents per semester and alternate Thursdays are meeting days for these wives and mothers of tomorrow. Those who ofhciate at these meetings are Virginia Stone, president: Nancy Beck, vice-president: Edna Morris, secretary, and Kay Morrison, treasurer. Miss Sybel Beach is the sponsor. Sievertsen.
