Bronze Pin H01101' Socicfy-Tbwe Senzfsfers The Student Forum With the rising interest in international, national, state, and local affairs, there came, in late November, the news of a new organization in Calumet. This local soap-box, open forum, or what have you, is ably sponsored by Miss Susan Gorman, civics teacher. The first chairman was George Sharpe, and the first secretary was Miss Marion Chris- toffel. The first great topic, which brought forth heated argument from both sides, was: Shall We Recognize Russia? This discussion continued at meetings for several weeks, until finally Mr. Roosevelt helped the situation by announcing that all relations between Russia and the United States were normal. But not even this announcement stopped the discussion. It still raged on. The Student Forum gained wide popularity among the teachers as well as the students by presenting prominent speakers. In the spring this growing body elected Herbert Kalk chairman and Florence Ryan secretary. The program committee has done excellent work, making every meeting very interesting and gaining whole-hearted support from Mr. Tower, the faculty, and the students.
