Mr, .ff . , Bark Roni-Biarti, Kogan, Lees, Petersenfgcarnavaek, Cullenbine, Davis, Schneider, Bennett, Cohen, Mitterman Qmanagerj. Front Rout'-Diggins, Rollins, Armstrong, Ovesen, White, Davis, Mitchell, Hoare. Wfrestling Team Calumet's matmen, a team composed almost entirely of green men, met their first defeat Q54-72 at the hands of a veteran Morgan Park squad. Jim M3CDOHk1ld was responsible for Calumet's seven points. The following week Calumet met the south section champions, Lindblom, who swamped Calis grapplers with the unbelievable score of 57 to 2 LQ. Burt, Cullenbine, and Davis helped to build a score of 1626 against Fenger's -UIQ. In this match the team showed a little improvement over previous meets. As time went on, Calumet's team gained experience and put up a more stubborn iight, as was illustrated in the Bowen meet, which we lost by the close score of 31-33. Calumet's wrestlers were at their peak when they met Mt. Carmel and proceeded to give them a trimming to the tune of S4 to S. In fact, Calumet won every bout with Mt. Carmel except two, and those two were draws. Although Harold Cohen had an infected knee and had had no practice for two weeks, with an indomitable spirit he held the Mt. Carmel man to a draw. Calumet was invited to participate i-n the city meet held at the University of Chi- cago. James QMusclesj Wliite and Praying Dave Hoare each won third place in their respective weights. Four men received letters: Burt, Cullenbine, White, and Hoare. Jim White, one of Calumet's foremost wrestlers, is also a football star. jimmy will be one of the mainstays of Calis squad next year. Much is expected from him. I im Wbife 1 I i ,, - Q Q, . , .J . ,...., . . ., . . Ir' ,,., I ' C' ' -as P . . -E O . Back Ron'-Wfeyer, Daluga, Kellett, Handley, Church, Reece, Kennelly, O'I.eary, Carlson, Mullin, Stube, Stephan. Front Row-Smart, Konrath, Borman, Schrik, Cook, Soderlind, Nelson, Seper, Holmquist, Buchholz, Bischenauer. Baseball With hardly two weeks to condition his team and with all but two regulars lost by graduation, Coach Paulson set about his difricult task of building a baseball team. Two Weeks practice resulted in the following lineup: Schrick and Mullins pitching, with Weyei' catching, Nelson at first, Konrath at the keystone position, Daluga alternating with Stephen at short, and Cleary handling the hot cornetf' The outheld consisted of Soderlind, left field, Holmquist, centerheld, and Buchholz right field. Without having scheduled any practice games, Cal opened her league season at Ham- ilton Park with the strong Parker nine. Despite the Spartans' efforts they were defeated to the tune of 6-2. In the second game Cal defeated Hirsch in a hard fought battle 4-3. Fenger came next and caught the Spartans off stride, defeating them 11-2. Despite the early nine-run lead piled up by Morgan Park, Cal recovered, only to be defeated in the latter part of the game, 12-9. In a practice tilt Cal easily defeated the Tilden squad with a smashing 11-4 win. Traveling to Culver, Cal handed the cadets a 9-5 trouncing, with Mullins hurling the Hrst half of the game and Schrick polishing them off. For the second time Cal met Morgan Park at the latter's Held but was defeated 4-2. O'Leary did the hurling. In one of the hardest fought games of the season Cal lost to Bowen 8-7, the game going into the eighth inning with Cal using three pitchers, Mullin, Schrick, and Mac- Farlane. In the next game Calumet met the Parker nine and was again defeated, 7-1. Schrick and Cook did the pitching. Hirsch won the next game, 12-6, and then Bowen defeated Calumet in a close light, 6-5. In the final game, on May 17, Calumet won from Fenget, 11-6. Since four of this year's team, Buchholz, Daluga, Schrick, and Weye1', will be back next year, the prospects are better for 1935. This yearls team deserves great commenda- tion for always putting up a good fight. Page 122

Bark Rau'-Larson, Kennelly, Olson, Anderson, Sirotek, Peterson. Frou! Rau-Kent. Haffner, Cohen, Birks, Cultra, Haley, Colby, Ahern, XVetherell. Swimming Team Though depleted by graduation this year, Calumet's swimming team showed great promise i-n the meets in which they participated. Placing fourth at the University of Chicago annual invitational meet, they were pitted against Englewood and Morgan Park, two extremely powerful teams. The relay team participated in many meets, but because of lack of experience they did not fare so well. Thomas Birks, a junior, placed second in the A.A.U. meet at the Lake Shore Athletic Club, in the breast stroke division. He also placed second in the same event at Roosevelt in the city meet last March. Earl Anderson, also a junior, placed fourth in the 200-yard free stroke in the senior city meet. Calumet's mermen show great promise for the coming year. Anderson and Birks are regarded as the mninstays of next year's team. Life Saving Pracficv Pagf 124
