Calumet High School Symphony Orchestra just a few years ago our orchestra consisted of some twenty to thirty members and had very little in the way of equipment, but each year more players and instruments have been added. The orchestra now has an enrollment of eighty players and entered the contest this year in the upper group. The required number of instruments for entrance into this class is seventy to eighty-live. The Junior Orchestra The Junior Orchestra consists of students from both the main building and Westcott Branch. The work is preparatory for the advanced orchestra and owing to the fact that the class contains students of varying ability and training, members usually remain two semesters in the junior orchestra before entering the advanced orchestra. Beginners may enter this class, taki-ng up violin, viola, cello, or bass. Many of the players in the large group started as beginners in the junior Orchestra. Girls of ffac' Mixen' Chorus Mixed Chorus just glance at the opposite page if you want to see what the Mixed Chorus looked like when it presented its operetta, The Prince of Peddlersf' on April 25 and 26. Isn't that an attractive array of shepherdesses, serving maids, serving men, pirates, and pages? And don't you like the looks of the principal characters in their interesting costumes? The Mixed Chorus, sponsored by Miss Margaret Blood, is composed of the Girls Glee Club and the Boys Glee Club. The Boys Glee Club was organized just this year. The Girls Glee Club has been in existence many years. Its oilicers for this year were: Mary Mitchell, presidentg Ruth Fischer, vice-president, Lenore Erlandso-n, treasurer. In the city-wide contest at Crchestra Hall the girls won first place in the class composed of clubs with less than one hundred members. This same honor was won by the Girls Glee Club last year. The group also took part in the memorial program for Miss Melody, in P.T.A. and neighborhood programs, and i-n various assemblies.
