Text from Pages 1 - 152 of the 1988 volume:

In Memory of Windy Patricia Gallager (Dec. 7. 1 970 — Oct. 1 3. 1 987) Tragedy struck Calumet High School in the year 1987. A very dear friend and fellow classmate Windy P. Gallager died. But even as she has passed on, her memory still lives on in our hearts and minds. Windy came to the Lake Ridge School system in 1985, which was her freshman year. She participated in the Warriorettes and was the manager of the swim team. Windy was indeed a very loving and caring young lady. We will miss the sight of Windy’s cheerful, reas- suring face and that gentle air about her immensely. Windy P. Gallager In Our Thoughts (by Val Villerel) I know you’re with us though you’re gone You’ve left us here to carry on We’ll think of you each night and day You’re in our thoughts when we pray Although you’re up there in God’s care How could he think to ever dare To take the one that made us smile And peacefully make Our day worth while So as the night turns into rest We’ll know you’re up there with the best Just hear our prayers oh when we pray I think your soul is here to stay You made us laugh You made us cry Oh how I wish this wasn’t Good-bye. 4 Opening c. FROM EVERY ANGLE As we look back upon this year we can cherish the many memories we developed. The school year saw some changes, from the room change of the Guidance Office to the addition of new teachers to the retirement of science teacher Charles Cole. Mr. Sopko was nominated as the best Athletic Direc- tor in the State of Indiana and re- ceived a $1,000 scholarship for a stu- dent athlete at Calumet. We hope this yearbook will help you recall FROM EVERY ANGLE the things that helped make this year special for you. a. Since Calumet was reclassified to a lower class, regardless how tough their conference schedule was or what their regular season record was, the coaches truly thought that no team in our sectional was that tough and that we should have won sectional competition. Calumet’s team record was not impressive, but we did have some oustanding individual performances. This helped tremendously to relieve the pain for their failure as a team. a: Calumet Warriors Varsity Football team: Back row: Coach Nick Voris, Coach Agerter, Coach Sivilich, David Oswalt, Troy Johnson, Bill Priller, Harley Tigner, Coach Dennis Bunda, Coach Jim Wadkins, Coach Woody Feeler. The team will miss it’s three seniors, Michelle Widelski, Michelle Kasarda, and Barb Haynes, but will build on its seven returning team members. a: Girl’s JV Volleyball team; row 1: Tyra Rosborogh, Jennifer Page, Judy Kabina, Precious Vargas row 2; Joy Nelson, Debbie Anderson, Katie Coomer, Tommie Taylor, Coach Sherri Green, b: Senior Michelle Widelski with an intimidating serve, c: Freshman Precious Vargas sets the ball up for a kill. The netters exemplified a skillful season in which many goals were attained. For example, Senior Rawn Emig qualified for state competition and unfortunately ended up with second place. Next year will be a rebuilding year for the Warrior tennis team due to the loss of many senior tennis players who led the team this year. Senior Rawn Emig had a 43 match winning streak over the last two years. During that two year period he did not lose a single set, he was also undefeated in doubles over the last two years. He was also selected to all-conference team in ’85, ’86 ’87. The tennis team will lose a great competitor this year. a: Tennis Team: row 1: Randy Pendleton, Damon Schaefer, Jeff Campbell, Patrick Duncan, Jeff Keffer, Mike Colson row 2: Robert Cantu, John Wood, Rawn Emig, John Taylor, Dale Rader, Mike Ferri, Mr. Gobbie b: Senior Rob Cantu returns the ball with a smashing forehand. c: Senior Damon Schaefer gets ready to execute a shot, d: Junior Dale Rader smashes a devasting backhand, e: Senior Randy Pendleton now awaits a possible return from his opponent. f: Junior Jeff Keffer blasts a smashing return. e f Boys’ Tennis 13 CROSS COUNTRY Mr. Fred Sanchez, coach of the Cross Country Team, thought this year’s team had “a rather good sea- son.” The award winners were: Kevin Jones — M.V.P., Andy Trevenio- outstanding Freshman, Joe Clark — Most Improved, Scott York and Corey Davis — Mental Attitude winners, and Joe Clark — Most Consistent Runner.
