Participants honored On March 29 the Inland Steel Ryerson Foundation held their annual “Outstan- ding High School Teacher Awards” dinner. Awards were presented to encourage excellence in teaching at the high school level. This year Miss Pauline Yatsko was given the award. Miss Yatsko has been teaching at Calumet for 31 years. She began her career at CHS teaching Spanish and arithmetic. Sne is cur- rently teaching Algebra I and II, trigonometry, and analytic geometry. Miss Yatsko also sponsors Honor Society, Student Council, Pep Club, Let- tergirls and Cheerleaders. The annual vocational banquet was held in the CHS foyer on April 4. Awards were given to outstanding members in the Health Occupations, In- dustrial Cooperative Train- ing and Office Education Association clubs. Staffs hold awards day The CHS’ Yearbook and Newspaper staffs changed from their annual dressy awards banquet to a casual picnic held at newspaper staff member Pete Richards’ house on May 19. Miss Francie Blaney presented certificates of par- ticipation to all members of both staffs. Special awards were presented to senior Stephen Turner, Post Tribune’s “Most Valuable Staffer;” junior Pam Van Vleet, “Most Contributing Yearbook Staffer;’’ sophomore Patti Wachowski, “Most Ads Sold;” junior Dave Radar, “Most Con- tributing Photographer;” junior Pam Schiller, the Hammond Times’ “Most Valuable Underclassman Staffer Award;” and junior Pete Richards, “Most Con- tributing Newspaper Staffer.” Staffs Picnic 25
