Discovering the ‘fine’ CHS life Music, art and drama have played an important role in the life of man since the beginning of time. The classes offer an opportunity for constructive self-expression. Members of the drama classes studied the fundamen- tals of theatre throughout the year. Those enrolled also presented the annual Homecoming Revue in the fall. Chorus and Band members traveled to local and state con- tests and presented Christmas and spring concerts. Individual projects in art in- cluded the repair and painting of a wooden Indian by senior Jeff Evans and junior Anna Hernandez. The Indian was aj3j)roximately 75 to 100 years During the winter Mr. Cruz Velasco retired from the CHS faculty. Mr. Steve Betz joined Mr. Robert Velasco to assist with Band duties in the spring. B: Sophomore Ruben Vargus and junior Sherry Planer work on a project in Mr. Roy Wilson ' s sixth period art class. C: Forming an ensemble in the Christmas con- cert held in the CHS auditorium are choral students Karen Shumpert, sophomore; Dana Mayes, freshman; Kim Darwin, junior; and Karla Owens, sophomore. D: Senior Rodney Allen practices the xylophone in his sixth period band class taught by Mr. Robert Velasco and Mr. Cruz Velasco. Studying historical standards Four years of social science and history classes are re- quired for Calumet students to graduate. Classes offered were civics, world civilization, U.S. history, government and economics. These courses emphasized the political and historical past, E resent, and future of the Inited States and the world. In Mr. Tom Dakich’s civics class, students were required to deliver reports on a famous event, personality or place. During the spring, Mrs. Rose Nagy served as student teacher to Mr. John Tsangaris’ U.S. history classes. Mrs. Nagy was a student at Purdue Calumet. A: Students study an assignment in Mr. Robert Maginot’s third hour U.S. history class. ■ B: Sociology students work on an assignment in Mr. George Ahlgrim’s third period class.
