Read a good book lately? Calumet’s reading lab had a new look this year. In the fall Mrs. Linda Demo was added to the staff. The library provided many learning materials to aid students in career or college planning. Two microfiche machines were purchased during the year. Tne new equipment pro- vided information on topics such as career choices, military experience and colleges ana universities. A: During Mr. Bryan Dye ' s fifth hour English class, Sandy Bosstel browses through the various books offered by the Calumet library. B: Seniors Chris Plesha. Jeff Bogdan and Tony Whitehead work on increasing their speed rate in reading lab. C: Mrs. Betty Cheliras, library aide, works to keep the library in order. Stressing ‘practical’ CHS skills Practical Arts classes offered at CHS included woods, metals, drafting, graphic arts, welding, cooking, and han- dicrafts for personal use or fur- ther vocational training. Each studen t created a different pro- ject. After completing a project they received tneir grades. Oc- casionally there were displays of students’ work in the Calumet High School trophy case at the main entrance. A: Sophomore Wendy Childers works on her embroidery project for handicrafts class. B: Junior Susan Hinkle puts the finishing touches on her handicrafts project. C: During welding class, senior Chris Thorn- berry makes an adjustment on a weight rack. D: Freshman Ida Salinas and sophomore Ivan Davis, members of graphic arts class, work on a layout for the school newspaper.
