Students crack those books! What do you wanna’ be when you grow up? Are you finding it difficult to make that life decision? Consider the following: curriculum offering a variety of courses in general, vocational, business and academic areas. Besides just instruction in readin’ writin’ and ’rithmetic, students with a flair for the ar- tistic were able to choose from courses offered in the fine arts area. Therefore, whether choosing to be a doctor, lawyer, or In- dian chief, students found a variety of courses offered to at- tain these goals for the future. A: Kathy Babbs, sophomore, works on a project in Miss Frieda Gutzman’s handicrafts class. B: During physical education class, junior Michelle Harvey works out on the leg extender. C: Senior Hope Augustyn and junior Lupe Hernandez prepare a Thanksgiving turkey in Mrs. Joyce Weakland ' s Foods I class. D: Junior Tonya Fisher studies geometric figures in Miss Pauline Yatsko’s Algebra II course. E: During graphic arts, senior Betty Jo Pena works at the plate burner. F: Playing the baritone in Band class, is freshman Margie Maddingly. G: Junior Theresa Buker works on a photo copier during Office Education class. Learning lots of language! A little touch of Germany was added to Calumet’s teaching staff this year. Miss Gerlind Strohlein from West Germany exchanged positions with Mr. Stephen France. Miss Strohlein taught German I, II, III, and world civilization classes. Other foreign language classes offered at CHS this year were French I, II, III, and Spanish I, II, III. English courses included three years of required classes. Elective choices in this department in- clude journalism, yearbook, newspaper, drama, speech, reading lab, Bible literature and English 12. A: Portraying a nun, senior Kari Stadt tells a story in English 12 from “Canterbury Tales.” B: Witches and devils haunt the stage as Calumet drama students perform a Halloween play at neighboring elementary schools. C: Senior Tomi Baigent, editor, proportions a photograph for the 1983 yearbook during sixth hour. D: Senior Lori Krawczenia relates a story from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.” Lori portrayed a worthy woman. E: Acting out a murder trial , sophomores Deb- bie Parker and [esse Smith practice a scene for their second hour English Class from “The Way Up to Heaven.” F: Advanced German students complete an assignment during second hour. 16 English Foreign Language
