As another quarter drops, dots are devoured by the ravenous Pac Man. According to a January 18 issue of “Time” magazine, an estimated 20 billion S iarters were deposited into ectronic arcade tills last year. In all, an estimated $5 billion was spent for the clinking and beeps on ar- cade games. Playing Games 3 fitting i “Fittine in” at plays, con- certs ana dances was all a part of Calumet fun. Preparations for the ‘‘big event” included staying after school, getting out of class and the hustle and bustle of last minute arrangement. However, the most fun of all took place when the doors opened for admission, the curtains rose, and the band began to play. This year, CHS students participated in a new event, the election of a “Mr. Foot- ball” was selected from four gridiron finalists, who also acted as homecoming Queen escorts during the halftime festivities. The wide range of activi- ties carried on throughout the school year provided ample opportunity for CHSers to find that special place for ‘‘Fitting in.” S s •X 4 Activities Division Top Four Acton: Members of the 1961 court includes seniors Michele Kacher and Darrell Alcemon, LaVonne Scott and Curtis Forrester, Donna Frye and Ty Olin, Beth Henderson and Tom Rutledge. Many students were “Calvinized” or sporting labels from Jordache, Gloria Vanderbilt, or some other brand of designer jeans. However, some CHSers were still forsaking the ex- R ensive denims for less cost- y brands. The latest hairstyles were also prevalent, as many students sported perms, braids, and other feathered styles. “Fitting in” at CHS re- quired some conformity to styles and fads. Whatever, the fashion, many students adopted the fad to fit their personal styles. 106 Faces Division Staff attends Frisco seminar CHS principal Mr. Robert Joseph and Lake Ridge Superintendent, Mr. Herbert Abramson attended the Na- tional Association of Secon- dary School Principals from March 19 to 23. In general, businesses suf- fered and large corporations such as “Goldblatts” and “Mays” were forced out of business. Also, numerous small proprietorships were forced to close their doors. As fewer and fewer businesses remained open, jobs became scarce. Therefore, some Calumet students were not hired because men and women with families were often favored in the selection. Finding a job was often one of the main necessities for any high school student. Extra cash always seemed to be a priority to the enjoyment of a social life. Afterall, automobiles, gasoline, movies, arcade games, etc. required more than Mom and Dad’s usual allowance. Yes, one’s financial state often related to one’s ability to continue “Fitting in.” 152 Advertising RAN BURN AUTO PART9 4189 Cleveland 154 Advertising Studc 3985 Broadway Chapel Plaza, Suite T Merrillville, IN 46410 (219) 738-2544 Curtis Forrester Donna Frye Advertising 155 Lake Ridge Girls Softball Team Sponsors Modrak CHEMICAL PRODUCTS COMPANY INC. 3700 Clark Road Gary, IN 46408 Phone: 838-0308 156 Advertising Congratulations to the Class of ' 82 Compliments of TRUCKSTOPS OF AMERICA M THE GREAT AMERICAN TRUCKSTOP 25th And Burr — Off 1-80-94 Gary, Indiana • Visit Our Family Restaurant (comfortable seating for 250 patrons) • Visit Our General Store (famous name brand products) • Full Truck Service • Gasoline Station And Diesel Savings • E-Z On ■ Off 1-80-94 At Burr Street Exit • 24 Hour Convience Store Gold Bond Stamps We Give And Redeem ' Em Spend ’Em Just Like Cash Open 24 Hours A Day Advertising 157 158 Advertising Midwest Lumber 3319 Burr Street Gary, IN 46408 838-3268 Paul’s Auto Yard You Name It We Buy It We Pay Top $ For Junk Cars We Sell Good Used Auto Parts Paul ' s Auto Yard Towing Available Gary Lake Station 2124 Calfax 1290 Ripley 845-2676 962-7569 Advertising 159 Cut Rate Auto Parts 5770 W. 25th Avenue Gary, IN 46406 845-0376 ALUMINUM SIDING -WINDOWS DOORS - COMPLETE REMODELING BLOWN IN INSULATION Free Estimates 838-8718 3737 Ridge Rd.
