HAROLD H. STRYCKER We, the Seniors of Calumet High, would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Mr. Harold Strycker, for his encourgement and the interest he has taken in each and every member of the Senior Class of 58. Mr. Strycker came to Calumet September 1945, and previous to that he taught in Bristol, Indiana. He ascended to the position of principal after one year as assistant principal. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Manchester College here in Indiana and did graduate work for his Master of Arts degree at Indiana University. MAX W. HILE A new member of the administration this year is Mr. Max W. Hile, assistant principal and dean of boys. Mr. Hile attended the University of Notre Dame from 1941 to 1943. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years, after which he re-entered the University of Notre Dame in 1946 and graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree. His first year of teaching was at Winchester, Kentucky. He received his Master of Arts degree from the University of Kentucky in 1950. The next position he held was at Adamsville, Tennessee in one of their high schools. The next four years were spent as principal of that high school. In 1956, he returned to Indiana and taught at Oxford, Indiana. 5

WALDRON A.B. , M.A. ROY CHAPMAN B.A. Special classes for students who had done superior work in English were scheduled in grades nine, ten, and eleven for the first time this year. Both students and teachers seem happy with the program. Six of our top juniors and seniors took achievement tests at Crown Point and hope to qualify for Bloomington. LILLIAN B. PHILLIP J. MILOS HAMNIK MCLAUGHLIN KARIGAN, JR. B.S. A.B. B.A. YYluaic The music department headed by Mr. Victor Barbieri and Mr. Thomas Clark has been very active. The dance band has made many en- gagements. The Senior A” band have appeared in parades and a few members have played at basketball and football games. The A Cappella Choir has been very active, too. Tom Clark, Victor Barbieri. 7
