Though working behind the scene, they have been with us in every phase of high school life -- from the auspicious to the arduous. We, the Senior Class of 1952, do respectfully dedicate this first annual of Calumet Township High School. t We, the Senior Class of 1952, would like to take this last oppor- tunity to express our gratitude to the man who started us on, our high school career . . . Ora C. Strycker. Mr. Strycker was a man who always had time to lend a sympathic ear to the students problems. A man of whom we can say, I thank God for every rememberance of you. 2 Ml MV We pay tribute to those pictured here. They represent us, the class of 1952. Their leader- ship has influenced our school and all the people associated with it 4 CECIL A. GRAYSON Superintendent of Schools . . . . and through their efforts have elevated us to a full four -year high school. With this con- tinued type of guidance, we see a great future -- rich in tradition for our CALUMET. GEORGE B. Through the first few years it was a hard time in organizing the sport for local competition. After a long struggle it has finally payed off with a team that showed the school and community what it really had in basketball competition. Here is what our Coach came up with: Larry Childs, a slim but smart and skillful player while handling the ball in games; George Cermak.ahard fighting player; Donald Umfauf, a lefty with a nice clean shot; Joe Mitchell, a long shot player; Bob Doty, and his ever- trying hook shots; Roy Haussman, a man to pull games out of the fire; Charles Doty, try- ing to equal his brother. Roy Haussman, Forward George Cermak, Forward Donald Umlauf, Forward 40 Charles Doty, Guard Harold Hinshaw, Center Larry Powers, Guard Larry Powers, with jump shots; Roger Groza, a small and fighting player; Eugene Ewen and Curtis Taylor, hard running and always trying. This is our combination of a bunch of hard fighting boys who never quit until the end. They believe in clean and well - played games during the long season, trying never to let the school and their coach down. In 51 and 52” we entered varsity competition for the first time, which was a new and exciting adventure for the whole team. To help celebrate the new field of varsity com- petition the new gym was built, with one of the biggest floors in the Calumet area. A pleasing addition for the pupils and team of now and in the future. Eugene Ewen, Center Curtis Taylor, Center 41 7 earn Row 1 Left to Right, R. Fronek, C. Rosich, R. THE INSTRUMENTAL GROUPS O ALUMET HAVE RAPIDLY REACHED A LEVEL, IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, WHERE THE MORE ADVANCED GROUPS HAVE BEEN ELIGIBLE FOR REGIONAL COMPETITION. THEIR VARIOUS CONCERTS AND PROGRAMS HAVE PROVED THEIR CALIBER. SENIOR, JUNIOR, AND BOYS ' CHORUS GROUPS, ALSO, HAVE MADE REMARKABLE PROGRESS IN THE PAST FEW YEARS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MRS. BARBIERI AND HAVE CONTRIBUTED GREATLY TO THE VARIOUS FESTIVALS AND PROGRAMS. THE ULTIMATE AIM FOR BOTH GROUPS OF THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT IS TO INSTILL IN THE STU- DENTS AN APPRECIATION OF ALL PHASES IN MUSIC. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY ALLOWING STUDENTS TO EXPLORE AND INTERPRET MUSIC OF GREAT COMPOSERS AND TO EXPRESS THEIR OWN IMPRESS- IONS THROUGH INDIVIDUAL CREATIVE WORK. THE VARIOUS PERFORMANCES OF THE PAST HAVE GIVEN EACH GROUP AN OPPORTUNITY TO DISPLAY THEIR COMPREHENSION OF THESE AIMS. Row 1, Left to right. D. Carnagey, C. Scott, D. Doan, H. Carey, H.
