CHANGE OF COMMAND On September 8, 1973, a very important event took place aboard the USS CALOOSAHATCHEE in Lisbon, Portugal. Captain John E. MALLOY relieved Captain Bernard E. GOEHRING as Commanding Officer. There is no other event in the Navy quite as significant as a change of command for the captain sets the tone of the ship. He is completely and inescapeably responsible for the ship and the lives of all her crew and his every decision has far reaching effects on each member of the crew. He must earn the complete confidence and trust of all the people in his command to well and faithfully discharge his duties. The awesome responsibilities of command at sea require a very special type of man. On September 8, we said farewell to Captain GOEHRING and Welcome Aboard to Captain MALLOY. 5 2 V , M4 .1-.. i l 1 L
