'X aaa QE' Q1 ' Semor Prophecy 1 1,1 ' , .13 A visit to No Man's Land in l96l sounded like a good idea for a vaca- tion, so we took off for a week to visit that part of the country. And whom should we meet the very first day but our old friend, John Hruska, sweeping streets to keep up the broom trade. We had a nice chat with him and he in- sisted on being our guide during our stay. He knew the streets by heart, so what could we lose? He took us to lunch at an impressive looking place called HDine with Falth,H and as we entered, here came nSlimH Rothmeyer, all decked out in an ex ensi e l ki f p v oo ng uni orm. It was slightly wrinkled, but he was happy anyway. He led us to our table, and while waiting for our order we turned our atten- tion to the nickelodian. John went over to put in some nickels and soon the room was filled with the sweet music of nDaveH and his Music Masters, Dave's old clarinet tooting away like mad. CMr. Krueger must have influenced our farmer boy after all.l The next thing we knew, a familiar voice sounded from nowhere. fwe found out later it was the nickelodian.J Shera1d's deep bari- tone was rolling out on the strains of HI Cover the Waterfront.n Really, Sherald?! The lunch was so delicious we had to find the proprietor Uacongratulate him. And who was he but Eddie Andersen in person. But his person wasn't in any plush-lined office at the momentg ln fact we found him in the kitchen washing dishes. Now, how in the world did he get there? Since we were to spend the afternoon sightseeing, John suggested we get a car, so we went to the nearest garage. It was owned by that genius with cars, Bob Hmake 'em or break 'emu Eppens. Seems he got the business when an agent discovered his top notch '36. We got the car and set out for a museum. As we strolled through the halls we noticed a beautiful something standing near a showcase. We thought it was a Greek goddess until we got closer, then we saw that it was Nancy. She was studying the remains of ancient dogs, trying to discover how her Butch was put together. Down the hall was a group of paintings that caught our eye. There the works of those greatg Roger A. and Lillian were taking their place among the Rembrandts, Michelangelos, and Disneys. A fashion show in a department store was our next stop, and there we found that brown-eyed country gal, Helen Buchheit, directing the clothing department. She was fluttering around with last minute preparations for the show, so we went on in to get seats. As we looked around, we spied Mary Lou sitting there with a rather sad expression on her face. It was the clothes that made her feel that way, she said. They were all so pretty, and though her WAVES' uniform was attractive, it surely did get monotonous sometimes. As our attention was drawn to the stage, we noticed Darryl sitting way up in the front row. why would he be at a fashion show? well, the curtain went up and it wasn't long before the famous model, Mary Jo, showed up in a bewitching gown. No wonder Darryl had his eyes glued to the stage. Later it was discovered that modeling was just a s1deline,for Mary Jo was spending a lot of time learning to guide a plow. There was just time tocatch the football game after we left the depart- ment store, so we went to see Ron's NRoughnecks' play Notre Dame. It was an exciting game with Ron's team in the lemdlfll the way. Suddenly one of the
