Commanding Officer (Plcinkowner) CDR John T. Hood Commander Hood graduated from the University of Kansas in 1962 with a degree of Rochelor of Science in Chemical engineering. He attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island in 1963, and was commissioned an Cnsign on 22 November 1963. His first assignment was in USS MUllttNV (DD S28) where he served as Communications Officer. In 1966, Commander Hood was assigned to duty as Officer-in-Chargc of a Swift boat in Viet Nam where he served for one year. Ordered to duty under instruction in the Ordnance engineering curriculum at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, Commander Hood graduated in 1969 with Master of Science in electrical engineering and electrical engineer degrees. He then reported, via Naval Destroyer School, to USS JOHN KING (DOG-3) where he served two years as Uleapons Officer. In November 1972, Commander Hood was ordered to duty in the Surface Missile Systems Project Office at the Naval Ordnance Systems Command where he served as DIG RAW Modernization Project Officer. UUith the formation of the Naval Sea Systems Command in July 1976, Commander Hood was assigned to duty as executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander for LUeapons, Systems and engineering. He then attended the Command and Staff course at the Naval UJar College, Newport, Rhode Island, followed by assignment to USS JOHN McCniN (DOG-36) as executive Officer where he served until February 1978. Returning to Washington, Commander Hood most recently served on the staff of the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Surface Warfare) as RCGIS Program Coordinator. Commander Hood has been awarded the legion of Merit, the Rronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. Commander Hood is married to the former Janice Skinner of Dawson, Iowa. They have two children, Jennifer and Matthew. 4
