President's Message I am extremely happy to have accepted the cordial invitation of the Board of Trustees of the California State Teachers College to serve as your president. The Department of Public Instruction and the Governor of the Commonwealth have charged me specifically with a sacred trust. I am keenly sensible of the quality of that trust, and distinctly under- stand that the highest confidence is implied when a great Commonwealth places upon the president the mantle of responsibility for the intellectual, physical, social and cultural development of hundreds of its young men and women. I have been encouraged by the promise that this trust is shared gener- ously with an intellectually eminent faculty, who are completely devoted to the enhancement of education, and by an alert student body who are earnest in purpose and above all highly appreciative of the privileged op- portunities accorded them by the citizens of the Commonwealth. Confident that the trustees, faculty, students, alumni, and the citizens of the Commonwealth will support every sound purpose and program of this institution, I am proud to serve you with a spirit of generous considera- tion, and dedication to the cause of teacher education. I am certain that we will fulfill our missions as good teachers and bring credit to the profes- sion, and honor and dignity to the California State Teachers College.
