E , M 4 .1 we Herron Hall was built in 1930 and completed in 1939. The various facilities include a play room, classrooms, and locker rooms. On the second floor are two gymnasiums for men and women. The main gymnasium is also used for basketball com- petition and dances. Herron Hall also contains one ot the best swimming pools in Western Pennsylvania. Herron Hall Johnson Hall Johnson Hall is located near the athletic field and the gymnasium. It in- cludes an apartment for the Dean of Men, beautiful lounges, recreation and service rooms. It serves as a dormitory for men, primarily upperclassmen. The building is modern in every respectp the furnishings throughout are entirely new. It was first occupied in September of 1952.

The Libra ry The library, housed in Main Hall, contains more than 30,000 volumes. Approximately 1,000 volumes are added each year. The library subscribes for over 200 current magazines and newspapers and has catalogued nearly 2,000 bound volumes of periodicals. Spacious, well lighted reading rooms accommodate T50 stu- dents. The periodical reference room provides limited study space for students upon request. Vulcan Hall Vulcan Hall, immediately behind the main building, was built in 1892 as a gym- nasium. The upper floor of Vulcan Hall now houses the Student Lounge. The decora- tions and equipment of mod- ern design were planned and executed largely by the In- dustrial Arts Department. The room is unique for its use of bright color in the furnish- ings and decorations. A large mural depicting student life on the campus was designed and painted by a former student. The student-owned Snack Bar has been relocated and occupies ci part of the ground floor. The College Book Store, also a Student Co- operative enterprise, occupies another portion ofthe ground floor. Steele Auditorium The Robert McCurdy Steele Auditorium, a building named in honor ot a former president, is located along the eastern edge . of the campus and has auditor- ium 'Facilities for 900 persons. The building was dedicated in October of 1953. Various as- sembly programs and glee club concerts are held in the audi- torium. The Theodore B. Noss Laboratory School, built in 1930, is a center for elementary student teaching, including observation and demonstration work. The office of the Director of Student Teaching is located in this building along with various offices tor the members of the faculty. The psychology laboratories are lo- cated in the Noss School.
