Z9rcsidc'14!'s Message The first two years at Stanislaus ' State College have been most event- ful. The wonderful achievements of the faculty and staff in organizing a . the college program and the cooper- I T it r ation that has been received from l , .tv students and the general public pro- ' 5 Vide a solid foundation upon which f 5 to build ahead. Stanislaus State College has brought it V,,: ' tt Est: 5?2lll1Zt.i?sgw'kamHaw2 1 ' opportunity for advanced higher education for the first time to many thousands of residents of the six - . - county area. We are indeed proud of the fact that the college awarded its 150th baccalaureate degree at the commencement exercises last January. Our twelve week Summer Session makes it possible for many people to complete credentials and degrees through full summer study. People here have worked hard to stress excellence in all aspects of the college program and we have been most gratified at the strong support which these high standards have received. Our college again is the first state college to require a subject-m atter teaching major for elementary school teachers an d o ur gr?-de'P0if1I requirement for admission to the teacher education program is the highest of all state colleges. Our faculty has had full voice in developing the educational specifications basic to the building program, and have participated with our architects in many long hours of discussions regarding building fe atures. We now look forward to the construction of our first building in the year ahead, with the objective th at SSC will be distinctly outstanding, not only in the quality and arrangement of its buildings, but in its entire educational program. More important, we salute those of you who are graduating this year with the hope that you will join the Alumni and the general public of Central California in supporting with vigor and optimism the future development of this new college. 'I. Burton Vasche, President 44
