Photo by Gottlieb — National Candidates Fall Democratic vice-presidential candi- date Geraldine Ferraro spoke at a ral- ly in October at the CSUS Library Quad in her last Sacramento appear- ance of the 1984 Campaign. Ferraro’s Republican counterpart, George Bush, spoke the same day at the Marina Inn Tent in Broderick. “We selected Sac State because it was in the capital and we wanted to let more people have an opportunity to see her,” said Jim Denbow, lead advance person for the Ferraro cam- paign. “A Campaigned In The Ferraro campaign officials circulated nearly 70,000 fliers and advertised heavily for the event hoping to at- tract a crowd of 10,000 or more. Jesse Jackson and Pat Paulson also attracted large crowds at Sac State with their appeals for the Democrat- ic vote. Later in the year, many students cited Ferraro’s visit as perhaps the most significant happening on cam- pus this year. Activity 25
