You have a fine new campus and physical pient which provide the most modern facilities for gher education. Furthermore, its very location provides you with basic traditions which are so important to the spirit of any college. The American River is an important link between our State's historic past and the present. It has had a tremendous effect upon the early and rapid development of California. Your campus is located in a splendid progressive city--the Capital of our aes State--with a rich and vigorous heritage; with a ight and promisi: future. Such a setting for your academic work must be truly inspiring. To meet the challenge and to realize the promise this modern age offers, we must strive con- stantly for new knowledge and new techniques, Our State has no more important function than to provide the finest possible educational facilities for its young people. All Californians should have the oppor- A tunity to acquire the education which will help them t attain their proper place in our complex society. College training is no longer a luxury for a privi- leged few. It is rapidly becoming a necessity for a useful and well-adjusted life. The future of California rests in the hands of her young men and women. I hope the knowledge and training you are receiving at Sacramento State College will make your life finer, fuller and more productive as you prepare to assume the responsibilities of constructive citizenship in this great Republic of ena s Z KH .
