And in time there will be | more adequate facilities for our rapidly growing college. But in ; a very real sense we have already built —not with brick and steel, of course, but with more precious materials! For, although we have not constructed halls and classrooms, we, the faculty and the stud- ents, have built more fundamental and important things. We have built personality, character, and citizenship and we have built ideals and attitudes. The materials with which we have worked are the minds, the hearts, and the aspirations of youth and the culture to which our democratic society is heir. eee AE 52sec These things that we have built cannot be reduced to blueprints 9 nor can they be measured with a yardstick. They find expression in better men and women doing a better job of thinking in relation to | better purposes. To attempt to chart on a finite scale the height, . breadth, or depth of such values would be to reflect falsely the faith that I have in the infinite possibilities of students who are £ as well educated, i.e., as well built , as I believe our graduates t } are. It is hoped that we shall contimue to plan not only for a better oe campus but also for better education. The success of today's graduate fr will not only reward our faith in youth and in education but also will increase our determination to improve both our planning and our building. a a ae eebeiiones dimmeniee = ice “em a aatiaaiaaaiiien,.
