Popularly known as the “Jarvis-Gann Amendment,” the in- itiative was greeted with cries of dis- aster by its opponents and accolades falling only a trifle short of sainthood for its authors. The editor of the 1979 CSULB Book of the Year thought that life under “post-Proposition 13 in- fluences” would make a fascinating, stimulating, scintilating or possibly dull theme for this year's hook. Unfor- tunately, he was quickly reminded of the thin line he would he treading between such a topic being in good taste or not being in good taste. Not liking thin lines, medium lines or thick lines for that matter, he abrupt- ly changed the theme halfway through the first page to a much less con- troversial but more laboriously titled theme w hich he calls “life goes on at a great university whether Proposition 13 had passed or not” and if you can make sense out of that you get to pass Go and collect §200. But before bringing this exciting introduction to the 1979 Book of the Year to a close and wishing all of the 1979 graduates the best of baccalaureates and remin- ding them not to forget their Alumni Association as the years go by, if you will quickly do a little drum roll in your head please (this editor doesn't write music) there are two important announcements to make: 1. Despite the theme being so abruptly changed, we decided to leave in the sketch at the top of the page which shows Messrs. Jarvis and Gann at the Prop 13 victory celebration, and 2. because our art — you haven't tern anything yet. II ait 'til the voucher tytlem patten.
