BIACK 8ART, Bob Holfiold 1962 In the Old West, tough horn- bres, pretty jjirls. goldminers and their burros were the 49ers. Ev- ery day was their 49er day. To- day. the Long Beach State 49ers recreate a moment of these past lives, beginning with the election of Black Bart and Lotta Crab- tree. In the morning the town is opened a boom town built overnight. After costume and booth judging, the remainder of the day is devoted to enjoying the contests anti the olio acts. From There To Here The human hotly in not a machine. It has a spirit anti will of its own. and the wear comes on these parts-as much as. if not more than, on others. There is where men grow old before their time. The will grows flabby; the spirit becomes crusted over; the days lose flavor; the heart is calci mined into a shell from which there is no going out or coming in. I shall he old indeed when no longer am full of wonder and desire and the world is no longer a place of beauty, mystery, and delight.
