While Rocke- feller began investigations into the misdeeds of the CIA and Ford announced the U.S. was in a recession, ' X the Bicentennial celebrations officially began. ln .April, Vietnam again entered the news as the re- maining U.S. personnel had to be evacuated from Saigon. Meanwhile, New York City was in the midst of financial crisis. The danger of aerosol sprays to the atmosphere, an assassination at- tempt on Ford, the UN declaration of Zionism as a form of racism, and the dictatorial emergency in India V were other newsworthy events.
