ta LJ IL. Cal State has had it's taste of the agony of defeat more often in the past than the thrill of victory. This year, however, the tide began to turn in the Pioneers' favor-wins in football, a tie in basketball for the Far West Conference Championship and top teams in water polo, soccer, tennis, golf, swimming, baseball, and track, too. For Cal State University, without the support of a scholarship program, it was a year to be proud of coaching and talent, of in- dividual and team efforts, and of just plain doing a good iob! fi L! Q - QS - X ff 1973 1973 was the year in which national and international politics were in the news: immediately after Nixon's swearing in, Lyndon Johnson died, followed in February by the opening F a of the Watergate investigations and the seizing of Wounded Knee by the American indians. April QQ., brought the nation-wide meat boycott, and the launching of Skylab, the orbiting space station. Finally, the departure of the last combat troops from Vietnam was followed by the Chilean coup, Agnew's resignation, the beginning of yet another Middle East war, the rationing of gasoline in the United --N.......,,,,,, -,,,,.,,..a- I States and the final disappoint- ment of Comet Kahoutek.
