IN ACTION The game ended with a belated Cardinal spurt placing the ball on the University of Nevada one-yard line. CHICO STATE 14, S. P. STATE 6 October 15-For the first time in the 1938 season the Wild- cats came through for their backers, and ran all over the Golden Gaters from San Francisco. The 14-6 score does not tell the story of how decisively the locals took the big city into camp. CHICO STATE O, CAL. AGGIES O October 22-An inspired Wildcat varsity upset the dope bucket and completely outplayed the heavier, favored Aggie eleven before a capacity Home-Coming Day crowd. Chico kept the ball in the Farmers' territory throughout the game, but missed an attempted field goal, and two other chances to score. What everyone thought was a touchdown pass from Hoffman to Reams in the third quarter, was ruled out of bounds by the ofiicials. The varsity was light and fast but was hampered by the lack of experienced reserves. In every game played the Wildcats were greatly out weighed and outnumbered in substitutes. It was an off and on team however with one Saturday finding the Cats playing superb ball and the next finding a ragged demoralizcd ball team Dennis Red Robinson sparkplug of thc defens was named guard on the mythical all-conference eleven while Dick Kollenborn triple threat halfback and Ed. The locals opened the scoring early in the second quarter when Dick Kollenborn broke through the line on a fake reverse and went to the end zone without a hand touching him. This 30-yard touchdown run was the Cardinals' only score. The Arcatans, led by Meneweather, scored soon after. A long pass, Thornton to Meneweather, provided the winning margin for the visiting team. CHICO l3, SOUTHERN OREGON 0 November 5-Chico State dumped a heavier Oregon Normal squad at Ashland for their second win of the season. Chico scored early in the first period, after recovering an Oregon fumble on the kick-off. Hoffman and Welch did the ball packing. with Hoffman taking it over. His conversion was good. The Wildcats scored again in the third period on a pass, Hoffman to Vwfelch. Final score was Chico 13, Oregon O. SACRAMENTO J. C. 20, CHICO O November l l-A much under-rated Sacramento Junior College varsity thumped the favored Chico Staters, 20-O, as the local team played its worst game of the 1938 season. Chico made but one first down in the game, and three of the four passes attempted were intercepted. Only consolation was the Hghfiflg play of Red Robinson, Leo Palmiter, and Dick Kollenborn. COLLEGE OF PACIFIC 20, CHICO 13 November 24QA wild Wildcat eleven surprised a Pacific varsity that had just returned from a 32-O victory over the University of Chicago. The Chico team led, 7-6, at the halfway mark. Amos Alonzo Stagg got his biggest scare of the season, and if the breaks had been with the Cardinals, a bedraggled squad of P. W. C. champs would have trekked back to Stockton. Early in the third period, Dick Kol- lenborn, Chico's mainspring, was injured. Kollen- born had been ripping the Pacific line to pieces and his loss was a handicap to the remaining men. Robinson showed well in the line and was the defensive stalwart of the team.
