REALM CDF SPCDRTS BENNY REAMS Chico's Candidate mg nl E Q With the knowledge is that he has done -more than m any other athlete in the his- tory of the college to raise Chico State in the eyes of her contemporaries, we re- spectfully dedicate the ' it sports section of the 1939 Record to Ben Reams, the most sensational athlete ever to compete under the banner of the Cardinal and White. A resident of Fairfield, Ben first gained collegiate fame at Sacramento Junior College where he ran the 100-yard dash in :O9.7 seconds. Since coming to Chico, he has been credited with the phenomenal time of :09.4 seconds ftying the World record for this distancej . As a low hurdler, he holds the Par Western Conference record of :23.4. His conference record in the 100-yard dash is iO9.5. Ben competed for the Olympic Club this year, and will be eligible for the Chico State team again in l94O. During the next year he hopes to make the Olympic Games team. Chico's own Bouncing Benny is not only a fine athlete but he has held numerous positions at Chico State. He was president of Delta Psi Delta fraternity during the spring semester.
