FACU LTY AYMER J. HAMILTON College President Q You are living in a democracy. Your needs are. therefore, naturally the needs of one who must think and act freely. If you repay the State for the cost of your training you will have developed an understanding of and a faith in Democracy as a Way of life. It is impossible to have done this without having developed a moral fiber and a stamina which you could have easily done without had you lived in a country Whose educational philosophy Was determined by a dictator. You are, therefore, among the favored of the world. You will soon have a share in the development of democratic institutions. Are you at home in the history of these institutions? You Will soon be helping to readjust the schemes of social organization and helping in the solution of societysproblems. You will soon be competing with leaders of a world composed of many nations. Are you familiar with languages and are you at home with the great spirits of all ages, including your own, Whose labor and sacrifice and idealism have helped to create the society of which you are a part? If you have a feeling of inadequacy in facing the complexity of social prob- lems then your hope lies in remembering that commencement is the beginning of education and not the end.
