These craftsmen accomplish these tasks utilizing a variety of welding processes including gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc Welding, and shielded metal arc Welding. OXY!Acetylene brazing and cutting are also employed. Fabrication and machining of parts is accomplished by using the turning lathe and milling machines. All these tasks can be verified to be sound quality repairs by performing various nondestructive test methods, including visualldimensional, liquid penetrant and ultrasonic inspections. In addition to providing regular pay checks via the ATM machines, disbursing starts, stops and changes allotments, processes travel claims and takes in collections from the ship's store and post office. During deployment, disbursing paid out over 31,250,000 in the Way of check cashing and ATM withdrawls and has collected over S275,000 from the ship's store. The Post Office plays an important part in keeping morale high. Much like his civilian counterparts, our postal clerk collects outgoing mail and sells stamps and money orders. He is also responsible for sending and receiving all of the ship's mail. During this deployment CALIFORNIA's postal clerk averaged per month more than 511,000 worth of postal money orders, 4,000 pounds of outgoing mail and 3,000 pounds of incoming mail.
