CAFTAin BARRY V. BURROW Captain Barr ' V. Burrow, a native of Washington State, was born in Seattle in 1946 and was raised as a riavyjunior. he graduated from the U.S. Maval Acad- emy in 1968, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree. Initially assigned to the Immediate Masters Program at the U.S. naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Cali- fornia, he received a Masters of Science Degree in Me- chanical Engineering in 1969. Following riuclear Propulsion Training at Bain- bridge, Maryland and Windsor Locks, Connecticut, he reported aboard USS GRAY (DE 1054) in 1970, where he served as navigator Administrative Officer and subsequently Main Propulsion Assistant. In 1972 Cap- tain Burrow commenced a two year Auxiliaries Officer tour aboard USS EMTERPRISE (CVFi 65); he then served as Training Officer at the DIG nuclear pro- totype. West Milton, new York. After Department Head School and a six month tour on the COMnAVSUR- FLAnT nuclear Propulsion Mobile Training Team, he served as Engineer Of ficer of USS VIRGiniA (COn 38) for three years. Following his Department Head tour. Captain Burrow assumed duties as Executive Officer of the na- val nuclear Power School, Orlando, Florida in 1981 after which he completed a tour as Executive Officer of USS MALSEY (CG 23). Following duty as the Force nuclear Propulsion Readiness and Training Officer on the COMnAVSURFPAC Staff, he commanded USS TOWERS (DDG 9) from September 1985 to December 1987 operating out of Yokosuka, Japan. Captain Bur- row assumed command of USS CALirORniA (COn 36) in August 1988. Captain Burrow wears the Meritori- ous Service Medal, the navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, the navy Achievement Medal and several unit commendations, campaign and service medals. Captain and Mrs. Burrow (the former Maiy Ann Ward of Melrose, Massachusetts) have three sons, Brian, Sean, and Michael. The Skipper is all smiles as CALIFORniA prepares to leave for deployment.
