The Supreme Court listens to argument by the Attorney General. A large group is attracted to an interesting superior court case where the District Attorney is addressing the Jury. LEARN BY DOING This is the secret of the success of the school of practical government known as Boys State, After explanation and demonstration by the Counselor, the boys are directed to proceed with the operation of city, county and state governments. They use their own good judgment in making their laws, operating their governments, and deciding the penalty for breaking the laws. The 1961 Inaugiu-ation Richard Jack, Whig, won over his Fede ' -alist opponent, Stuart Besser. After taking Oath he became the 24th Governor of Boys State. Senators in audience listen for explanation of Governor ' s Platform. Chairman Jack Ertola beams in background as Governor Jack starts his inaugiu ' al address. State Treasurer Bert Betts who conferred oath is about to be seated. Due to adequate facilities, experienced management, and dedicated personnel Boys State has operated efficiently with over 800 boys in attendance. The counselors have repeatedly stated that it is better to do a good job with fewer boys that to do a poor job under crowded conditions. 19
