Claaa Hiatonq We, the seniors of 1957, started on our way through high school in the year one thousand, nine hundred and fifty three. We have progressed most rapidly in these few ears in which we have attended high school, yet it seems only a trifle when we stop and gaze backwarjover the four years that have lapsed. Although we have progressed rapidly, we have encountered, along with a great deal of fun, many hazards and hardships. lt seems only yesterday that seventy of us, sponsored by Mrs. P. H. Smith and Mr. Richard Hopkins, enrolled as Green Freshmen. For class officers we elected Keith Bachman, President, Kenneth Taylor, Vice-President, Mary Alice Eubank, Secretary, Mary Alice Simon, Treasurer, and Clarells Settle, Reporter. Later that year we took a very educational trip to Bardstown, Frankfort and Lexington. The next fall fifty-eight of us came back to school to be the Silly Sophomores of l954. Our Sponsors were Mrs. L. D. Knight and Mrs. A.T. Nall. We elected Jerry Abney, President, Jake Ashton, Vice-President, Beverly Davis, Secretary, and Betty Richardson. Treasurer. The year closed with a trip to the Mammoth Cave. As Jolly Juniors our Sponsor was Mrs. Robert Hicks. There were forty-seven of us that year and Kenneth Taylor served as President, Jerry Mize, Vice-President, Nell Hines, Secretary, Betty Richardson, Treasurer, and Norma Porter, Reporter. We presented a play entitled Men Are Like Street Cars. Shirley Hardin and Billy Dent won the dramatic awards for their outstanding performances in the play. We closed the year by taking the seniors to Nashville to visit the Tennessee state capitol, the War Memorial Museum, the Parthenon, the Hermitage, and the Grande Ole Opry Now we have come to the time when we must depart from our dreaded yet dearly loved Calhoun Hugh We leave an order to progress toward higher education and In order to reach higher goals Forty three of the seventy of us that started as Green Freshmen have made the grade and are now conssdered Sophisticated Seniors Eugene Cobb was elected President Bully Dent Vice President Nell Hines, Secretary Shirley Hardin Treasurer and Betty Richardson, Reporter Mrs L W Northungton and Reverend James L Garrett are our Sponsor Many honors have been received by the members of our class However, we feel and know that whatever we have accomplished could not have been possible without the help and co operation of our parents and teachers National Honor Society Members Eugene Cobb Clarella Settle Norma Porter Marlene Wetzel Sandra EIQWIH, Shirley Hardin Betty Richardson, Mary Ella Dent Beverly Davis Nell Hines and Alice McDanle Basketball C Awards Bully Dent Jerry Bates, Norman Troutman Donnie Layton, Eugene Cobb Kenneth Taylor, Thomas Baker L C Sweeney, and Jake Ashton Speech C Awards Sandra Erwin Shirley Hardin Mary Ella Dent and Marlene Wetzel Muslc C Awards Clarella Settle Senior Cheerleader Shirley Hardin D A R History Award Winner Norma Porter Annual Editor Beverly Davls Nursing Scholarship Award Nell Hanes Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Norma Porter Dlstrlct Voice of Democracy Contest Winner Clarella Settle D A R Good Citizenship Award Beverly Davls Marlene Wetzel, Class Historian ie , Q, 380 diffs?
