QSuper1k2fe120Qnf G ,Wessaye Dear Friends: This year we celebrate the Golden Anniversary of our schoolg and as we look back over the years, we are deeply grateful in our hearts for the efforts of the pioneer settlers of this town, For it was they who laid the foundation of the educational system which we now have, A few of that noble group still live, work, walk our streets and bless our town, Among them are: Mr, Tilden Pryor, Mr, Lee Mallory, Mr, Roane Lovom, Mr, and Mrs. Jim Boland, and Mr, Eugene Boland, To them in a spirit of deep respect, we pay tribute and not only to them, but to every citizen wholives in this school district and to the memory of those who have gone, Thank God and you for a heritage unsurpassed, rich and noble, To all the teachers who have preceeded us, we are grateful to you and the superintendents of the past for the lessons in life which you have taught in the building of the citizen- ship of our town, Where ever you are, be happy inthe knowledge of atask well done, Parents, teachers and students, it is up to-us to work, to go forward in faith, in an effort to hand to our posterity a noble heritage also, So, let us join hands and hearts through sincere prayer in an humble effort to call down from heaven continued blessings from the hand of an all powerful and eternal God, Sincerely,

To not only these, but to all of the older citizens of our town and to the hard- working faculty of this, our C. C. H. S. , the staff of the Wildcat '56, dedicate this Golden Anniversary Edition. With the wonderful help of people who wanted their children to be educated, this school was begun and preserved. We want to pay our tribute to these citizens and teachers by bringing back, we hope, many memories of a child- hood - and days gone by. 1906 - In September, Miss Eurania Hardin fwebbj and Mrs. Lillie Mitchell fPryory came from Pittsboroto start a school in Calhoun City, A building was started and was to be a large school with two rooms and a hall through the middle, The project ran out of funds after the first room had been put up so the building stopped and was left as it was. Folks sent their children from miles around from three years and up. As the average enroll- ment was over 40, at Christmas the two ladies took on Miss Tellie Ruth QPowelly to help them, Each teacher took a comer, and her mob, and started to pound in the larning, 1907 - The old shack was tom down, and a second building fpictured abovej was built, A big celebration was held when the school was finished, 1922 - The building was now so old it had to be propped up, and there was opposition to letting the children go to school in it. A parade was held in which there was a little boy carrying a sign: If the school fell on me, who'd care! One night the building, to the surprise of everyone, mysteriously burned, While our present Grammar School was being built, the classes met in the Baptist Church, located where the post office is now, the old Methodist Church, where the present one is, and an old silent movie theater where Hawkins Motor Company now is. 1948 - Our modern high school building was added to the group, QW e have done our best to give the correct dates., MRS, ELLEN MRS. EURANIA
