Nba Q35 ':fi5IESf'S- afsP- T7 'ff 'fI ?. 5 1641.22 ' ' ' - 'Jr i TEE -.ea:fgzgg.f.L:: i f ' '- 1 In Tribute Mrs. Mildred Shaffer began her teaching career at Westmoreland Central School in February. 1945. She had obtained her bache- lor degree from the State University of New York at Albany. From 1946 to 1953. Mrs. Shaffer taught at Rushford Central School. At this time. she returned to Albany to earn her Masters degree in education. In September. 1955. Mrs. Shaffer joined the CMCS faculty. For fourteen years. she taught business. and became one of several faculty stalwarts to withstand the weathering effects of time. Mrs. Shaffer was also instru- mental in the production of the Ainotlelac and the publication of the Nt'w.s'hlu:er. Her superb management of the business affairs of the school's yearbook and newspaper un- burdened members of the editorial staffs. enabling them to rise to greater heights of creativity. Last June. Mrs. Shaffer was forced to retire from teaching because of illness. Her departure has left a regrettable void in CMCS' staff. In Memory Douglas LaFave. a member of the class of 1971. was an enterprising young man whose ambition it was to attend college and major in industrial psychology. Reading adventure stories and psychology books numbered among his favorite pastimes. Doug's amiable personality drew people to him. His friendly manner always seemed to exude warmth. The ease with which Doug related to people enabled him to successfully maintain a part-time job at Rich's Paint Store as well as participate in sports at school. Doug was greatly interested in athletics of the individual. ln his freshman year he won a junior varsity wrestling letter in the 127- pound class. Dougis sophomore year saw his physical stamina stretched nearly to the breaking point when he was the 2-mile runner for the CMCS track team. ln addition to his athletic regimentation at school. Doug worked out regularly with weights on his own. Another love of Doug's was cars. He was often seen just driving around town in his mothet s '63 Chevy. Words tend to echo hollowly when they attempt to soothe the pain of emptiness in the grieved hearts of relatives. All that we can say is that we deeply feel the loss of a dear friend.

Class of I 970 Ofjicers John Ward, president: John Sickles, viee-presi- dem: Mary Harmon, secretary, Lucille Walkup, H'EllSLH'6'l'. Advisers Mrs. Carole Koch, Mr. George Mulcahy, Miss Rita Therolf, Mr. Carlos Hevia. Webster defines the word class as a body of students or alumni whose year of graduation is the same. We, the members of the class of l970, hold testimony that Mr. Webster has barely touched the surface of the word's meaning. Through the warmth of intimate communication and shared academic and social ex- periences, we have delved into one another's hearts and established bonds of friendship that will last a lifetime. Although others had told us that senior year would be the finest, the expectation of our new status was but a mere shadow of the actual enjoyment we derived from it. Our title itself acted as a binding force, causing each of us to drop his mask of pretense and join into a unit based on mutual trust. The parade of succeeding Ulastw events-our last football game, our last pep rally, our last dance-though tinged with sadness was the culmination of our high school careers. ln our opinion, we missed nothing along the way.
