Homes, oliioes, industrial plants, and schools have sprung up to meet the demands of our constantly growing population. The Class of 1962 is proud to be coworkers in this program. We have built a school-not of brick and mortar, but one just as important, for it will remain always in our hearts. It is a school of spirit. C.M.C.S. students have been working hard to build class spirit. It is prominent in class activities where cooperation and hard work are necessary, in the satishction of a successful class project such as presenting a beautiful junior Prom or Ball. Class spirit is the pride and confidence that our class is the hest. Spirit represents memories of those individuals who helped us during our formative years-people like our teachers who have worked hard to educate us, the athletic coaches who hlwe taught us teamwork, our athletes who have represented us in sports, the taxpayers who have bettered our school, and finally those persons who have always been willing to lend a helping hand. To these and all the others, too numerous to mention, the Ainodelac pays tribute. The members of the stall of the 1962 AINODELAC have worked to present C.M.C.S. with the finest yearbook yet to he published and hope you will treasure it always as a precious memento ofthe school year. Hinsdale who has ever been In recognition for We dedimte you APPRECIATION To Mrs. Root, our junior high mathematics teacher, the Senior Class has elected to express their most sincere appreciation. During the thirty-four years in which she has been a member ofthe Caledonia-Mumford faculty, she has contributed a great deal not only to our class, but to those classes that have taken their place in our community before us, and to the younger groups who will follow. It is Mrs. Root who has given us a firm foundation for our high school years. Although this, our sincere appreciation, is but a small token of our true feelings, we truly do thank you, Mrs. Root, for all the help and inspiration you have given. ADMINBTRATION As we leave C.M.C.S., let us remember that the blueprints of our future have been drawn up by the faculty and administration, as well as our own efforts. With interest and patience these people have inspired us to achieve more creative work, and they have guided us in forming lasting habits. Under the supervision of the faculty, our outlook has been broadened in the fields of science, business, and citizenship. The adminis- tration has provided the necessary encouragement and direction. Special thanks are due Mr, Robert Freeman, our Vice-Principal and Guidance Counselor, who has helped each of us choose a suitable career so that we may better serve our community. X GR DE Q n s f X 'ukvj' in SIXTH GRADE ACTIVITIES One of the major undertakings of the Sixth Grades has been the formation ofa Service Club, under the direction of Miss Rossney, our Elementary Supervisor. The duty ofthe twelve members belonging to this club is to serve teachers and classmates by collecting absence cards and banking slips, and by serving on patrol duty in the halls. All the sixth grades, in order to support Pavlos, their foster child, sold pencils and tablets to the other grades. Many members of the class also participated in Elementary Chorus and Band. These organizations, under the leadership of Mr. Allen and Mr. Eager, demonstrated their ability at a Spring Concert, along with other groups. Twice during the year Parent-Teacher Conferences were held. Later in the spring, parents were invited to visit a classroom while school was in session. This served to encourage a closer family-school relationship and enabled the parents to observe their children at study. One of the most important ceremonies of the year was the Arbor Day program. On this day, the sixth grades planted a tree near the school entrance. This is an annual event. Although it is agreed that sixth grade has been one of fun and hard work, all the students are antic- pating entering the seventh grade in the fall. Mrs. Satre's and Mrs. Foltma.n's classes studied South America. Using the knowledge obtained, they made a product map of our Southern neighbors. Each week all the fifth grades watched Focus on Science, a television program. From this the pupils made erosion displays, showing proper and improper planting methods. Mrs. MacIntyre's grade, after studying a unit on the Southeastern U.S., made a large map. As they studied each secion of the country, the pupils filled in the states, cities, and products. They also made a display of plants and seeds which was very interesting, as it was exciting to see the things grow each day. All the grades made a rock display early in the year. A special table in each room was devoted to the rocks collected by the pupils themselves. They have enjoyed this year, it is exciting to look forward to sixth grade. White table cloths, framed portraits, dim lights, and colorful center- pieces ndded to the atmosphere. To complete the effect, the Ivy Leaguei-s supplied the delightful dancing music. DATE: NOVEMBER 24, 1961 THEME: CLUB 62 1961 FOOTBALL BANQUET john receives congratulations from a member ofthe Board ot' Education. Each year the Caledonia Hook and Ladder Company honors the football players and cheerleaders of our school by giving a dinner banquet for them. In November ofl 961, amidst appropri- ate decorations of goals, helmets, and footballs, this annual event was presented once again. Guest speaker of the evening was Coach joseph Repko. His interesting views on sportsmanship were enlightening and edifying. The evening was highlighted by the presentation of the Stewart Campbell Award. STEWART CAMPBELL AWARD Stewart Campbell, a member of the Class of 1949. was a friendly, good-looking boy who was popular with his classmates and members ofthe faculty. The boy's first love, however, was sports, especially football. In May of 1949, iust one month before he was to graduate, Stewart was killed in an automobile accident. Because ofhis keen interest in sports, Stewart's motherand sisters donated aplaque in his memory. On it, each year, was to be placed the name of the outstanding football playcrnout- standing, not necessarily in skill, but in sports- manship and actual desire to play football. This year the award was presented to john Hone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hone, who resides at ll jersey Street. Last year the Stewart Campbell award winner was Robert Grattan. 74 john Hone FACULTY SENIORS Friday, january 26, was the date of a long awaited event, On this afternoon, members ofthe faculty pitted their basketball skill against that ofthe seniors. The Faculty-Senior Basketball Game originated several years ago for n double purpose--for fun and, more important, for raising funds forthe March of Dimes. This year the games resulted in victories for the faculty men and senior girls, and in raisingover S200.00,as Caledonia-Mumford Central School's contribution to a very worthy cause, the March of Dimes. Mr. George Mulcahy, SmiorP1ay Dirxtof BIG HEARTED HERBERT On Friday evening, March 50, the Class of 1962 presented its Senior Play in the Caledonia-Mumford Central School auditorium. Big Hearted Herbert by Sophie Kerr and Anna Steese Richardson, is an uproarious comedy in which Herbert Kalness is depicted as a successful man in his factory, but quite incompetent at home. He just cannot seem to adjust his viewpoint about the younger generation. It seems as if the members of the Kalness family haven't a chance in the world to change the views of their dominating father until they, aided by the long-suEering Mrs. Kalness, play a trick on him which leaves him speechless ln defeat. The play was a wonderful success, and all who participated enioyed themselves. Recognition is due not only the splendid cast, but also the behind-the-scene people, imperative to any presentation, and friends who made the play possible. REMEMBER ? 4- Mi i A 1 E v Er ' Y M .
