She had the rare ability to bring out the best in her pupils and to help them develop into real individuals. Dedication ' MR. NORMAND LE BLANC Music makes the world a much happier and brighter place in which to live. Mr. LeBlanc, the person to whom the class of 1961 wishes to dedicate this edition of the AINODELAC, certainly proves this statement to be true. Mr. LeBlanc has done a great deal musically for our school and its students in the nine years in which he has taught at Caledonia. Due to his untiring efforts and inspiration, our band now boasts a grade A 6 rating. Along with giving instrumental instructions and directing the Senior Band, Dance Band, Saxophone Quintet, and Woodwind Quintet, he has also taught for the past six years at the Eastman School of Music. Mr. LeBlanc is indeed worthy of the admiration which we wish to express in this out dedication to him. MISS THEO ROSSNEY Appreciation The class of 1961 wishes to express its appreciation to Miss Rossney who has taught in the Caledonia school system for twenty-five years. She is a graduate of Caledonia High School, Rochester Normal School, and Geneseo State Teachers College. After many devoted years of successful teaching, she is now Elementary Supervisor. Our class, as well as the entire student body and faculty, is indebted and grateful to her for every- thing she has done for us during our school years. Often, when we recall our school days, we think of the fun that we have had and the friends with whom we have shared such memorable experiencesg but in reminiscing, oft-times we forget one of the most important aspects of our school careers-the administration. Thus, in attempting to avert such a misfortune, the staff has set aside this section of the AINODELAC for the purpose of paying special tribute to these persevering men and women. It is our hope also that in future years when we thumb through our yearbooks, our thoughts will linger for a few moments upon these outstanding leaders who so patiently influenced and inspired us to achieve higher goals. As in the past, the people of the Cale- donia School District rest assured that the school's MISS THEO ROSSNEY Elementary Supervisor administration is in safe hands, when it is the duty of such capable men and women as are presented on these two pages, to carry out the management of our school's affairs. To these persevering men and women, a special vote of thanks and confidence is presented by the students of the class of l61 for a job well done. MRS. As we, the class of '61, begin to think of the eve when we are to receive that coveted diploma, we think sad thoughts of leaving the school which has been our domain for so many yearsg but we also think happier thoughts of the days to come. The days in which we will come to know and love other build- ings, be it an office building or a college hall, be it old or new, we shall be there because that is the place to which we were prepared to go, through all those long years at good old CMCS. We shall also come to realize more clearly just how sacred those years that we took so for granted then, are to us, how sacred are the friendships made and the experiences enjoyed. let us take a moment now then, to recall all the good as well a.s the bad times that we have had through these years, all the friendships that we have made, and all the thoughts that we have thought about our town, our school, and our teachers. Let us begin now, so that we have plenty of time, to say good- bye properly to all these thingsg for chances are that as we wander through life we shall forget these things which are so near and dear to us now. Let us pay tribute, in our own way, to those things for which we are most grateful and to those people to whom we are most grateful. Let us not be afraid to thank those teachers who inspired us, nor to entertain an appreciative thought for all those who have been, in the true sense of the word, friends. Carolyn Howe, Secretaryf Frank Staber, Vice-Preiidenlf Nelson Stiles, Prefi- denlg Sondra Stone, Treasurer. Senior Class Officers PRINCE JOHN AND PRINCESS MARY unior Prom The class of '61 chose Oriental Gardens as the theme for the annual junior Prom held on May 27, 1960. The auditorium was beautifully decorated in an oriental decor, with the main attraction being a large Buddha. The climax of the evening was the crowning of Princess Mary Randall and Prince john Hamilton. Their attendants were Carolyn Howe, Barbara Nothnagle, Robert Grattan and Nelson Stiles. The two crown bearers were Deborah McEwen and Jeffrey jones. Our Miss Brooks Our Min Brookr is a three act comedy, adapted from the television program of the same name. Someone like Miss Brooks has a counterpart in everyones life. She is a most human and delightful English teacher who is involved in almost everything that goes on at school. Other factors which are of nearly equivalent importance are leader! ship, service, and character. Truly, these are the characteristics of the National Honor Society, and the fact that this picture of the Honor Society has been used to introduce this section of the classes in our school is of special significance. This was done so that it might serve as a con- stant reminder of the goals which each member of every class must strive to gain. Let us then be influenced in our daily work by this challenge, and strive in every way to excel. Classes -'vw -.. '-..-... , W-x.....X,M ,,,..,,s.........'f1'M 'X-'N-w ,XM mV-,M.... School Helpers lf a chain is to serve its purpose well, it is necessary that each link perform its given task efficiently, so that the chain will withstand the strain of pressure exerted upon it. Thus it is with the school. Each staff must perform its task effectively so that together the whole institution is run smoothly. It is notable that our school should be so very fortunate as to have such capable and persevering links as are represented on this page. To these people a special vote of thanks is bestowed by the class of '61 for all their efforts on behalf of our safety and comfort. Student Council In the past years the Student Council of our school has generally been considered a rather inert group, but this year, under the competent advisorship of Mr. Reeves, the council has made great strides in attempting to assert the authority of the council and enrich- ing the leadership qualities of the group. The council, this year for the first time, became a member of the National Association of Student Councils, and has participated in the activities of the County Student Council. With John Hamilton as president, the council has done much in making the division between the faculty and the students a smaller one. A great deal of credit is due the entire group for the admirable work it has done and for its ability to foresee the future need for more student participation in school 53 affairs Fin! In the past two years, our schools vocal music department has made definite improvements in every aspect of its field. This great improvement can be attributed to Mr. Paul Allen, our very capable director. Mr. Allen received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Roch- ester's Eastman School of Music, and his Masters degree from Columbia University. Prior to teaching at our school, he taught for ten years in Rochester, and has been teaching part-time at Keuka College for the past two years. The main goal for which Mr. Allen strives in our school is bringing the students to appreciate and understand one of rnan's great contributions to his spiritual and emotional well-being, the art of music. He desires to build and maintain choral groups of high standing in our school, groups that will be the pride of Caledonia- 63 3.2, S 5' 1, ibn..-vt Firn Row: janet Cappotelli, Gail Heffer, Susan Coyle, Mr. Allen, Phylis Hughes, Marlene Parnell, Deborah Donnelly. In this sports section we have attempted to por- tray a general, yet inclusive, picture of the ac- tivities and advancements executed in sports by the members of our school during the 1960- 1961 sports seasons. We hope in our attempt that we have given just credit to all those who participated in the various sports, and to all the various coaches who so diligently guided the boys to success. Coach Matthews watched these boys intently for what they could do. Our first game on September twenty-thirl showed that we needed much more practice, as Perry's fullback Richardson, ripped through our line. Perry scored in the first few minutes of play. After the boys got over their first-game jitters, they played good defense. The final score of the game was Perry-30, Caledonia-0. Outstanding players were Bob Grattan, Carmen Cappotelli, and Eddie Hanna. We next took on the fighting Blue Devils of Mt. Morris on September thirtieth. This game proved disastrous, for again, as in the previous game, the opposition scored early in the game, This fairly broke our already down-trodden morale as well as our physical courage. We just could not seem to get going, and Blue Devils capitalized on our mistakes. And so, when the gun went off, the final score was Mt. Morris-33, Caledonia-0. This is the way it went for the remainder of the season. The opponents scored in the early minutes of the game, and our boys were on the defensive for the remainder of the game. However, on October twenty-eighth we did tie York, our big rival, who was supposed to have beaten us easily. Although all the boys put in a great deal of effort, we must admit that we had a very unfortunate season, Yet, regardless of its outcome, this was considered to have been a building-up season for Caledonia, and everyone has great hopes for our boys next year, in view of the fact that me-rely three seniors will be lost. ln addition, we would like to take this opportunity to commend highly our coaches: Mr, Matthews, Mr. Schorer, and Mr. Seibert for their fine work the season. 1960 Football Scores September September October October October October November 23 Caledonia 30 Caledonia 7 Caledonia 14 Caledonia 2 1 Caledonia 28 Caledonia 4 Caledonia Perry - 20 Mt.
