Foreword The AINODELAC staff sincerely hopes that all of you will enjoy reading this 1960 edition of our yearbook as rnuch as we have enjoyed putting it together. Every- one on the staff has worked carefully and thoughtfully in order to present to you a satisfying and permanent record of activities and events which have filled our school years, and particularly this, our final year. Above all else, we hope the book reflects our pride in our school and our gratitude for all it has done for us. We extend our sincere appreciation to all who have assisted us in the composition of this book. edimtion r ,jg MR. JAMES MCCORMICK AND MR. LESTER EATON We, the Senior Class of 1960, dedicate this edition of the Caledonia-Mumford Central Ainodelac to Mr. McCormick and Mr. Eaton. Through their thoughtfulness and guidance, they have made out years at C.M.C.S. memorable ones that will never be forgotten by the Class of 1960. Appreciation The senior class of 1960 would like to express to Mrs. May, their appreciation for her many years of teaching at Caledonia. Inasmuch as she was the kindergarten teacher of the majority of the present sen- iors, we feel that our success in school is due, in part, to her efforts in our primary education. As George Rogers Clark once said, Great things have been ef- fected by a few men, well conduct- ed. So we feel about all our teach- ers, as Well as Mrs. May. MRS. MARY MAY Special Tim nies As we Seniors pause to reflect upon our school years, we realize that we are deeply indebted to many persons who have contributed to the happiness and success we have enjoyed. Among these are Dr. Hinsdale and Mr. Freeman who have provided admin- istration and counseling, and the many teachers who have helped us progress to higher levels. All of these persons have helped make this yearbook possible. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Griffith and Mrs. Shaffer for all the time and effort they have so generously given for the construction of the 1960 edition of the Ainodelac. To Mrs. Minster goes our deepest gratitude for her many services and our admira- tion for the smooth running office which she operates so efficiently. It also seems most appropriate to include in our vote of thanks the many generous patrons of this book. To all of you, most sincere thanks from the Class of 1960. Years from now when we reminisce about the good old school days at C.M.C.S., you will be among our memories. ..,,, 'Y' 77ZZ7'lZ5f1 df District Supervisor For many years Mr. james Foote, a man who is very important to our school, has not appeared in the C.M.C.S. annuals. In view of Mr. Foote's diligent service through- out the years as district supervisor, we feel it most expedient to include him is this, the 1960 edition of the Airtodelac. To Mr. Foote we extend our appreciation and re- spectfully acknowledge his laudable super- vision. Boctrc! of Education MR. JAMES FOOTE Stamiirtg: Everett Handyside, Robert Baldeck, john Randall. Seated: Gordon Booth, joseph Ward, Ralph Johnson, Francis Cullinan, Francis Skivington. Dr. Frederick M. Hinsdale Principal To the Pupils of Caledonia-Mumford Central: Today's world is one of confusion and trouble. Wfars and the tumors of war are common talk over most of the earth's surface. As' a result, man has become uncertain of his values. Beliefs which have always been accepted as standards by which to live are being chal- lenged as never before. To help counteract this uncertainty, it is highly important that we here at Caledonia-Mumford Central School develop a deep sense of loyalty-loyalty to our fellowmen, loyalty to our school, loyalty to our government, and loyalty to ourself. Vile must be ready to stand up and defend those values of chivalry, of truth which lifted man to 'his present level of civilization. We must cultivate the feeling of loyalty to our heritage. Then this nation under God will have a new birth of Freedom. V556 ' Pfif1CiPHl Elementary Supervisor Mr, Robert Freeman Secretary Miss Theo Rossney Mrs. Mary M. Farewell From The Class of 1960 With a sharp note of finality the door to our high school years closes. It leaves us feeling elated because the long grind is over, yet we are reluctant to part with all that has become so familiar - classmates, football games, dances, chem lab, and all the rest. Now we realize the future is strictly up to us. Making the transition from high school student to responsible adult is the first step toward maturity. We exchange our high school Way of thinking for a new awareness of the world around us and the people in it. Of course We shall take many memories with us, but they cannot be allowed to dominate our thoughts and actions. For this is the time to prepare the foundation for a productive future. l . Correcting papers, reading stories, helping the children with their work and observing teaching techniques make up much of the program of the F.T.A. It is hoped the F.T.A. will stimulate an interest in teaching among the students of our school. The weather for the first few weeks was in the high 90's, and none of the boys will forget the hard work they put into them. I'm sure they'll never forget, O.K. Boys! Let's take a walk, Cwind sprintsj when they could barely move. It was all worth it, however, as they rounded into shape for the first game. September 25 York - 13 Caledonia - 0 After the first scheduled game of the season was cancelled because of a technicality, the Maroon and Whites travelled to York for the season's official opening. It was a dark night for CMCSQ for fum- bling, penalities, and first game jitters played havoc with the Caledonia offense. Unable to get up an offensive threat all evening, the burden fell on the gallant defensive line that truly outfought the York forward wall but in the end couldn't take the terrible onslaught of the speedy York backs. They yielded a touchdown and a P.A.T. in the second quarter on a 20 pass play and in the fourth quarter on an 18 yard burst up the middle. Outstanding for Caledonia ware Gannon, Gratton, Perhamous. Holliday, Sheffer, and Cappotelli. October 3 Mount Morris - 6 Caledonia - 19 The CMCS football team traveled to Mt. Morris on this sunny, humid afternoon and put on an excellent offensive show, winning by a 19 - 6 score. Caledonia kicked off and after two plays recovered a Blue-Devil fumble on the ememy's 30. Within striking distance the Maroon and Whites kept it on the ground with Carmen Cappotelli going off-tackle for the final 7 yards. Cappotelli also added the extra point on a 2 yard dash. Mt. Morris scored in the second quarter on a 20 yard run, and the score read 7 - 6 at the half. As the second half began, Caledonia unleashed a powerful passing attack with Milo Moran at the throttle. He threw to Bob Gannon who went 65 yards for a T.D. in the third period and to John Connor who went 29 yards for a marker also in the third period. The fourth quarter was scoreless. Stick-outs for Caledonia were Perhamous, Holliday, Gannon, Connor, Bartalo, Neri, Cappotelli, Moran, Gratton, and Sheffer. October 9 Dansville - 6 Caledonia - 6 Playing before the hometown fans for the first time, a strong Dansville eleven provided opposition for CMCS. Most of the experts had the Maroon and Whites beaten by four to five touchdowns, even before the opening gun. Caledonia kicked off to begin the game and never stopped fighting until the final whistle. The CMCS line stopped the speedy Dansville backs cold during the entire contest ex- cept for about the first two opening minutes of the second half when Dansville capitalized on a Maroon and White fumble deep in Caledonia terri- tory and scored. The point failed. Caledonia came right back with a sustained drive which carried them to the Mustang 20 yard line. There Milo Moran faded to pass, spotted an opening, and raced the distance for the equalizer. The point however, failed and the contest ended in a deadlock. Caledonia had truly pulled the upset of the year. Standouts for Caledonia were Moran, Perhamus, Bartalo, Con- nor, Stone, and indeed all the boys who played. October 17 Livonia - 6 Caledonia - 6 On a bitter cold afternoon the Maroon and Whites traveled to Livonia to meet head-on with their toughest opponents, year in and year out. With neither team scoring in the first period, Livonia put on a sustained drive that carried them over the CMCS goal. The point was stopped. Caledonia's only drive of the half was halted on the enemy 6. As the third quarter began, Caledonia came to life and sparked by two long runs by Tony Neri got the Bulldog 1. There Milo Moran took the ball over. The point failed as Neri was stopped inches from the goal line on an end sweep. After that neither team could move, and for the second week in succession the Maroon and Whites had to settle for a tie. Starring for Caledonia were Neri, Sheffer, Cappotelli, and Holliday. October 23 Avon - 25 Caledonia - O On the second and final game of the season, the Maroon and Whites entertained the Braves of Avon before one of the largest crowds everassernbled at Hamiltdn Field. Caledonia won the toss, and that was about all they won on this autumn evening. Avon scored late in the first quarter on a pass play and after adding the point led at half time 7 - 0. As the second half began it was apparent that the Caledonia team had grown sluggish, and the Avon steam-roller continued on for three more touchdowns to complete the rout. The markers came on two long nins and a pass. Caledonia's only threat of the evening was in the second period when a sus- tained drive was halted on the Avon 4. Outstanding for the Maroon and Whites were Sheffer, Connor, and Moran. ootbczll - 19 9 cont. N ovember 7 Albion - 27 Caledonia - 7 For the concluding game of the season the Maroon and Whites traveled to Albion for a non- league contest. With neither team taking advantage of the many breaks afforded them through the first half, the score was 0 - O. Things happened, however, in the second half on this bitter-cold day and Albion scored four times-twice in the third period and twice again in the last. Caledonia's only touchdown came on a sustained drive from the CMCS 40. The final 19 yards were covered on a pass from Mike Burke to Don Bartalo in the end zone. Bob Gan- non plunged the line for the extra point. Shining for Caledonia were Moran, Connor, and Gratton. As a climax to the season, the boys were honored by the Caledonia firemen at a banquet on January 16. Receiving the coveted Stuart Campbell Award was Milo Moran. Winning letters for the season were Don Bartalo, Don Sheffer, Harlow Perhamus, Dale Stone, Ed Holliday, Bob Gratton, John Connorq Milo Moran, Carmen Cappotelli, Anthony Neri, Bob Gannon, john Hone, Mike Burke, and Bud Coors. Announced as next year's Captain was Bob Gratton. Action Jump balI. , Real support. Here goes that extra point. A new dance step. 117' f-'sm 3 f- ' in.- .,t., - M .. - eg 'A P - we f '?
