,. A, tp 5 ATHLETICS ln the 1940 football season Coach Freeman worked diliffentlv with a small squad of boys. Courage determination and fight could not entirely make up for inexperience and lack of size but the team fought inspiringly against oyerwhelming odds. As a result this season turned out to be a great one for the Maroon as they won four ind lost onlv two contests Vw e had a very encouraginff basketball season The first team wcn cnlv two games but they w re iast tough and colorful throughout the season Most of the hrst t am games were verv clcse contests The second team defeated all of their opponents but Penfield A top ranking baseball team respected by its opponent was produced by Coach Bernhard this year The team won most of its games After two highly successful seasons the team will be in a good position to lift the championship next year as most of the players will be back The Maroon and White county track champions for the past two seasons are on top of the pile again this year The speed skill and fighting spirit drilled into the boys by Coach Freeman has produced another top flight aggregation The tennis team under the direction of Mr Clifford has been practising enthusiastically and has made its mark in several con tests this season 'ess' 29 R C h 1 c c , , c 0 7 C 9 v 1 L . 1 N K , , .
