-4 ' 5- We, the Caledonia School, dedicate the 1953 Annual to all the men and women in the Armed Forces all over the world. We all know the great job they are doing, and hope they will be home soon. 1 Board of Education Here are the people who see that the school is in operation. They sometimes do not receive all the credit they are entitled to, but they are doing a great job. 2 Adm i nistration Manvil A. Ulland B.A. Mayville S.T.C. MayviIle, N. Dak. Mrs. Cl i Hard nan son Bachelor of Arts St. Olaf College Northfield, Minn. A Message From Our Advisor Years ago students were not as fortunate as present day students. In the days of yester- year, they hod a scrapbook, gathered material all through their school year, pasted it in. Today a large number of schools have a regular high school yearbook. In them are in- formation and memories that boys and girls will treasure many years after their school days are over. Many schools have a yearbook not only for their personal value, but for the experience that compiling and editing gives them. 4 Manvil Ulland Ad m inistration Mrs. Herbert Paulson University of North Dakota Mrs. Norman Dahl Valley City S.T.C. They were all boys. Gene Cotton, John Anderson, Harold McDonald, Roger Anderson, James Vettle, Curtis Anderson, Arvid Thompson and Glenn Moen. Bernard Reel and Barbara Koval joined the class a few days after school began. Then early the next spring, we had a new arrival to the class which brought the number of members to 11. He was Ernest Soholt of Lindass. Our teacher for the first year was Miss Iva Olson of Grand Forks. In the second grade, we had one small accident in which Gene Cotton got one of his teeth knocked out. We hod the same teacher again that year. The third grade was just a plain school year with the exception of getting a new teacher; she was Miss Hanke of Hillsboro. We all passed from the third grade into the fourth. Of course this year we thought we were pretty intelligent, because we got to change rooms. We also got a new teacher. Miss Lindamen of Reynolds. The fifth and sixth grades were about the same except we got a new teacher in the fifth grade. Miss Halvorson; she was our sixth grade teacher also. The sixth grade also marked the arrival of a new member of the class, bringing the membership up to 12. He was Dennis Satermo of Shelly, Minnesota. This year we made a higher jump, at least from the downstairs to the upstairs. Our seventh grade teacher was Miss Lovied from Moorhead. In the eighth grade, we got a new teacher, Mrs. Kaldor from Hillsboro. We all passed our ex- aminations and hod a very nice graduation. The next year was a great change for us all. We all became Freshmen of Caledonia High School with the exception of John and Curtis Anderson, who were going to try their luck in other schools. John started his freshman year in Halstad and Curtis went to Crookston AC. Later in the year Bernard Reel and Barbara Koval left school, so our class membership was back to eight. Our teachers that year were Mrs. Miller from Hillsboro and Mr. Lyann Bringham formerly of Caledonia. In our sophomore year, we had the pleasant task of initiating the freshmen. That year a member of our class went to the N.I.P. A. Convention in Grand Forks. Our paper, THE TIGER , received a highly superior rating at the convention in Grand Forks. The teachers that year were Mrs. Miller and Mr. Peckham. The big event of the junior year was the formal Prom with the faculty and the school board invited. Our teachers for that year were Mrs. Miller and Mr. Swinland. We are sorry to say that this is our last year and thet we have to leave this grand old schoolhouse. There are many things that have happened in the Caledonia School that we will remember for a long time. 11 Senior Class Prophecy Time: An ordinary day in 1963. Roger Anderson was to be married a few years ago, but he was late |ust once too often—to his own wedding. Dennis Satermo is the famous manager of a doughnut factory. He is famous for having devised the worlds most sanitary method for making holes in doughnuts. Arvid Thompson has been employed by the local cleaners for several years. He was arrested not long ogo for taking washings off the lines and taking them to the cleaners. Ernest Soholt is kept busy all day trying to keep tab on his very beautiful wife from Hollywood . Harold McDonald is kept busy keeping track of the pennies at the United States Mint. As a hobby, he is general manager of the General Motors Corporation. Glenn Moen is doing well at his new job as chief instructor of the dancing girls in New York's largest night club. James Vettel is Professor of Astronomy at Star Gazing College. He is still study- ing the moon----alone. Gene Cotton signed his contract with the Tomsville City Tomahawks. He led the league last year in catching fowls and making assists with the waterbucket. 12 Senior Class Will My friend, I have called you to assemble here as a solemn duty, that you, the heirs and assigns of my respected client, the class of 1952 to 1953, may hear her last will and testament, which as her legal advisor, I drew, as directed by her, immediately prior to her passing from our presence. To our dear Alma Mater, we bequeath some new grass guaranteed to grow under all walking conditions . To the sophomores, we bequeath our ability to persuode the teacher to see our point of view. To the freshmen, or beginners department, we heroically leave our surplus knowledge. To M’s. Hanson, we leave a little notebook so that she may job down the names of idlers in assembly. Glen Moen wills his quiet ways to Keith Anderson. His way with women. Gene Cotton leaves to Paul Beltz. Ernest Soholt leaves his good jokes to Don Hatfield. Arvid Thompson leaves nothing because he needs all he has for the future. To the laziest member of the Senior Class-to-be, we bequeath James Vettel's ambition. Result will be normal activity. To whomever wants it, Arvid Thompson leaves his experience to train wild broncs. To the young and unsophisticated Preshmen, we leave a map of the school building. To the Junior Class, we leave our well-known nerve which they will need next year, and all the examination questions we have been given during the year. To the Seniors-to-be, Dennis Satermo leaves what he forgot to do, plus all the articles he mislaid. Roger Anderson leaves to James Doeden his brilliant and witty remarks. To the undergraduate needing it most, we give Harold's store of information which will make the recipient able to pass any test In any subject not offered next year. To the history of the Caledonia High School, we bequeath our illustrious deeds and our names as candidates for the Hall of Fame, and to our dear old school building itself, we leave the peace- ful quiet caused by our absence and any apple cores, wads of gum, or crumpled notes we may have left about. In witness whereof, we the Class of 1952-1953, the testator, have set our hand and seal on this 29th day of May in the year of 1953. 13 Junior Class Left to right: back: Yvonne Koval, Lawrence Doeden, Jr., Sharon Biel, Jean Stigen, Gwen Wright. Time: A June afternoon. The Arrival of Kitty tells the story of Bob Baxter, a college graduate and a well-known athe- lete, who is in love with Jane, the girl of his dreams. Jane's wealthy father made an eccentric will instructing that his daughter should marry Benjamin Moore, a pompous bachelor of forty, who had once saved his life. Moore was quite willing to carry out the conditions of the will, as was also William Winkler, Jane's uncle and guardian, for selfish reasons of his own, but Jane, being in love with Bob hod ideas quite to the contrary. Winkler took Jane and her old maid aunt to the Halcyon House in the Catskill Mountains, determined to force Jane into the marriage with Moore, but Bob turned up and took a hand in the game. Jane's aunt had an aversion to actresses In particular and to the stage In general. Winkler was in love with Kitty Benders, a well known actress. Bob, to force Winkler's hand, told Aunt Jane about the affair, but Winkler, by a clever stroke, spiked his guns and left Bob hold- ing the sack. Bob, in an effort to get even with Winkler, impersonated Kitty, his actress friend, and made things so hot for Winkler that finally in sheer desperation, he agreed to the wedding and all ended happily.
