Front row- Pinkbeiner, Snyder, Nothstine, Hale, McGowan. Our first game was lost to Woodland. After that game the boys went around feeling somewhat discour- aged. Then the team won from Wayland and Kent City, and they were defeated by Hudsonville. On January 5rd they conquered Wayland 15 to 5. Not a single field goal was made against our team in that game. A week later C.H.S. defeated Byron Center by a big score. Then came the games of games. Middleville won from our boys quite unexpectedly. The boys compensated for that defeat taking three straight fro Hudsonville, Lee High and Kent City. Then came another victory, this time from our neighbor, Mid- dleville. They first took the lead but Caledonia soon surged ahead to stay there until the finish. The last game was lost to Comstock Park and was feat- ured by the brilliant shooting of the Comstock team. 22 ,d' BOYS' BASKETBALL Back row- Prescott, leur, Olthouae, Dennison, Flynn, Dygert, Young Frons'row- stnsiok, rosummus, mnkbeiner, nygerz, Rub, Hale, Nothstine. TOURNAMENT Our team ended s very successful season.with a clean, hardfought defeat at the hands of their oldest rivals. We met Middleville in the district tourna- ment. It was s hard fought battle with Middleville triumphing by the score of 55 to 214. ' Our second team was one of the sorappiest teams Osledonia has ever had. Although our records do not show a great number of victories we know that every game that was lost was s clean, hsrdfought battle. We hope that all our future teams may be of the same type as this one. 25 GIRLS' BASKETBALL 0 do at 5 Back row- Davis, Huver, Bculard, Rogers, Snyder. Center row- Stsuffer, Peet, Rector, Datoma, Hodges , Bowman, Schultz , Kayser, Woodman. Front row- Finkbeiner, Douglass, Anderson, Sears, Schroder, Near, Good. This year our girls squad started the season with a large amou t of raw material, since only one letter girl, Anderson, was back with the team. We dropped the first game, a thriller, to Woodland by a 15-16 score. We were unable to avenge that de- feat, for our return game was cancelled on account of stormy weather. In the course of an exciting season, we lost games to Hiddleville, Lake Odessa, Hudsonville, and Byron Center, and won fr m Way- land, Byron Center and Hudsonville. We also play- ed a tie game with Wayland. Although we lost sev- eral games, we feel that we had an enjoyable and profitable season. Girls' athletics in the school are managed by the Girls' Athletic Council, which this year con- sists of Monica Anderson, President, Betty Sears, Leola Rector, Margaret Finkbeiner and Elva Peet. Front row- Kaeohele, Young, Pinkbeiner, Shook, llcdowan, Hale. This year for the first time we had a football team. Be- cause most of the boys knew very little about the technique of the game, utmost perseverance and co-operation on the part of both the coach and players were necessary. Our first fgame was with a very experienced team, Ooopersvil e, on their eld, We were defeated by a score of 57 to 0. Ooopersville made all its points except 7 in the first half. The second game played at our field with Martin, showed what a little experience did for us. Although they shut us out we held them to one touchdown. Wayland brought us another defeat , but for the first time the ball was carried over our opponents' line by Ed Rich our full- baok. The score at the end of the game was lk for Caledonia and 53 for Wayland. The fourth game was for us our first win, When Zeelands second team oame here with high hopes they went back with defeat. The final score was 7 to O. Next we raced our neighboring toe, lliddleville, in a game we wished to win. Thouga we were defeated we held them to their lowest score or the year. The score stood 0 to 15 when the whistle sounded. Our last two games we played away from home, at Sand Lake and llaltine At sane Lake we were defeated o to 12. at martin we tied our foes 0 to O. lore than once both teams came close to the goal but they were always held from the goal.
