Their Homecoming float, judged first in the contest, was one of the most beautiful floats ever built to celebrate Homecoming. 4 A , 7 I Seniors - Class of '72 We, the class of '72, were among the most active students at C. H. S. this school year, serving as leaders for the school's many varied activities. Although many feel that graduation is a time of joy, it's difficult to ignore the memories that are left with us. . . The program known as student aides was enlarged this year with students earning credit and receiving a grade for their services. . . Released time went into effect again with most seniors qualifying. . . Films took on new meaning as the seniors in English 12 struggled to get scenes on film depicting Hap- pines Is. . . and Signs , . .An atmosphere of pride was prevelant as the football team added the needed spark and flamed into a victorious homecoming game. . . Classrooms took on a new look as furniture in brilliant colors replaced squeaking ancient desks and chairs. . . The weekly school paper, the BLUEPRINT, became a source of pride to the seniors editing and publishin it Mr Houlden C ' g . . . . , .I-LS. snew princi- pal, generated a new spirit of cooperation among faculty and students . . . Students became involved in making this year, the school year of '71-'72, the best year of them all. Pioneer the '7O's, the 1971 Homecoming theme, pre- sented a challenge to students confronted with the task of building floats to depict the theme. The seniors, the Class of '72, were awarded first place in the contest. Using the colors of the rainbow, the three-di- mensional sun lighted the pathway for the soaring mechanical Bluejay as it began its flight toward the future and its New Horizons. Receiving second place were the freshmen, the Class of '75. The extra large blue background with a red heart sym- bolized their theme, Transplant a Victory. A rumbling heart beating inside an electro-cardiogram machine and Beat MaiZe in large letters around the float carried their final message. The juniors, the Class of '73, won third in the float contest. A football field with a powerful Bluej ay on the 50- yard line ready to fire the 6 112 foot Saturn 5 rocket to the stars depicted their theme: Touchdown on the Seven Stars. Fourth place went to the sophomores, the Class of '74, They felt that fighting pollution was the responsibility of CHS for this homecoming. A large ever- powerful Bluej ay dunking a soggy Eagle into a blue bathtub symbolized their theme, Wash up the Eagles. The CHS chapter is one of the most ac- tive in their district. Freshmen Initiation at the County Fair started the year off with memories of vaseline, limburger cheese, and being made up by the senior girls and prome- nading in the Kiddie Parade. Different programs were tried out this year. The first Mr. CHS contest was held with Gaylen Reedy receiving the title for his charm, wit, and strength. The cabinet put their heads together and came up with an original Christmas program. During sec- ond semester Miss Wanda Mae Vinson, state director, was a guest speaker for a regular meeting. Christy Ferguson was chosen by the Kayettes as this year's DAR representative. Serving as officers were Dee Berline, president, Beth Countryman, vice- presidentg Debby Lebeda, secretary, and Sulinda Baker, treasurer. Myra Lebeda, Kim Crites, Sulinda Baker, Barbee Stow Vick N l , M S ' , , ' Pep Club An outstanding organization during this year was the C.l-I. S. Pep Club. The year started with much enthusiasm as the first bonfire was held be- fore the game with the Kiowa Chieftains. The all-school weiner roast was an added event enjoyed by everyone. It isn't everyday that school is released for a weiner roast. Remember the skits? Even though everyone made a fool of himself, it was worth it to see a bunch of enthusiastic students and teachers yelling and screaming for their team. It made a bit dif- ference in the winning attitude of the guys. A Pep Club is a much needed organization in every school. Students are proud to say that this year's club has been one of the finest.
