The Senate is composed of vice-presidents of each senior high class and each organization. The House of Representatives included an elected representative of each of the senior high classes, Kays, Kayettes, Pep Club, and FHA. It is the duty of these representatives to attend the STUCO meetings and to report back to their class or organization. STUCO has many yearly projects, including the sponsoring of after-games dances and the awards assembly in the spring. Homecoming activities are also planned by STUCO. This year the Student Council, with the help of school organizations, re -decorated i the activity room. The purchase of new speakers and phonograph equipment for the dances was also a STUCO project. is-sis' 2 in 1 STUDENT COUNCIL CABINET: Cindy Oathout, secretary, Mr. Robert Foster, sponsor, Ian Akers, president, Randy Kloefkorn, treasurer, David Lungren, vice-president, Mr. Leo Hayden, sponsor. 1 'ii-5 STUDENT COUNCIL: FRONT ROW L to R: David Lungren, Cindy Oathout, Randy Kloefkorn, Jan Akers, SECOND ROW: Renea Ryan, Joyce Washburn, Carol Troutinan, Dianna Overall, Carolyn Eckel. The students in the junior class at CHS have claimed many hon- ors. This year the juniors broke all previous records in the annual magazine sales contest with a grand total of S2,927. 14. They placed second in the Homecoming float contest after winning first place during their freshman and sophomore years. Many juniors participate in sports, music, speech, and other school activities. Looking ahead to the future, the juniors hope to add to their honors at Caldwell High School. Class sponsors this year were Mr. Wilt, Mr. Wilson, and Miss Crouch. 18 Q -F-pi.--f 'F , X , ' NK , , , -ffl K , xygfi., ,fu -w vLf'x L1 ' - ,K -- , , 1 'f K flflif L f.,,f fgfbff' J 4 fn fl fzyffir' ' f A' f ' - f! . -Q4 lla 'X f':fv Z lid! 1 mv f ff L ,f Aj f ,,, X ' f f M if J 414' 'J f. -1 ' ff '4 f f 5 ' . , , L X 'i f ' x Kff 11,z if K. 4, g,.' The green Martians are after us! Q f Ultra-Brite gives you The odds are 10 to Isn't anyone listening to the lecture? You'd better hide that evidence. 5 Those statistics are killing! Violence. . . freshman style' So what! I couldn't care less. The Class of '72 started the year very green and insecure. Our first experience was the initiation into the various organiza- tions. For the girls there was Fl-IA Mini-Rodeo. For Kayettes we modeled the latest fashions. For Pep Club we performed at the Sumner County Fair. For the boys the Kays had plays, and the football boys did. . .well, we won't go into that! Our most em- barrassing moment this year was Homecoming and our float! ! lt may not have been a prize winner, but we should have had a blue ribbon for what we learned from working on it. The class party was held in October. lt was a masquerade dance. There were some weird creatures present for an evening of fun. We are learning something new everyday and are growing in our appreci- ation for our school, teachers, and, believe it or not, the upper- classmen! Our class sponsors were Mrs. Divelbiss and Mr. Hanan. By Paula Kern, Secretary 26 --- -- JUNIUR HIGH W Eighth Graders Are . . It is not de- signed to make a craftsman, but rather to give students a chance to use and under- stand the basic functions of the tools and equipment found in shops. ' General shop is a prerequisite to all other courses in industrial arts. The courses to follow give the student an opportunity to leam more about the area of his choice and later to select, design, and fabricate a product according to his capability. Everyone uses machines in daily living that eventually require maintenance. The chances of any student working with ma- chines as a major vocation in adult life is almost certain, therefore learning to use machines is a must in the process of grow- ing up. All projects built in the CHS shop are first drawn in detail just as they are in in- dustry. Drafting is the universal language of industry and all those connected with the production line must be familiar with the language used. The CHS shop has quite alot of welding equipment, therefore most projects are of this type. However many introductory pro- jects are made in the areas of sheet metal, forging, foundry, and machine shop. Power mechanics is the study of simple machines, small gas engines, and auto engines. This area is new to the department and is now a part of Metal ll, but will soon become a full year course. ls Q r r .- .sss i S rs T sr f r l 'Q :.. at f.-,ir i l t e: -':2 .'r S V LOREN KUEHNY VERL MISAK Industrial Arts Industrial Arts JERRY WILSON Driver's Education Put your left hand in, Put your right hand out. at ,'.h .. . . . and the first place winner is Ronnie! The student studies various eras of literature in order to be better able to under- stand and appreciate the great works of writers like Shakespeare, Dickens, Thoreau, and Stuart. Beginning courses in English emphasize increased skill in grammar and writing. A thorough study is made in order to give students the needed background for everyday life. These courses also stress the importance of a good vocabulary and the need to learn correct spelling. Advanced courses continue the course of study of earlier years, but on a larger scale. Every effort is made to give the student the broadest possible vocabulary. Emphasis is on creativity of expression and thought in writing and speaking. Library Improved Emphasis was placed this year on the library as being the instructional materials center for the school. The addition of carpet added greatly to the attractiveness of the reading room and library office as well as helping to reduce noise. Other physical improvements included a new card catalog, new shades for the windows, and fresh paint. The art department provided the library with regular exhibits of students' work. The newspaper collection was enlarged to include ten titles represen- ting local, county, state, and national coverage. New sets of the AMERICANA and BRITANNICA encyclopedias helped to keep the reference section up-to-date. The audio-visual aspect of the library was also improved with new filmstrips, records, and flat pictures. Throughout the year the band participates in a great number of events. The Marching Bluejays participate in parades and other marching activities dur- ing the first two month of school. The march ers provide a half-time show at each of the home football games. The remainder of the school year is spent in preparation for concerts and the music festivals. The purpose of the band is to make better musicians, students, and citizens. Band Ensembles Promote Better Ensembles present a Varied musical experience for band members. Although they involve numberous rehearsals before and after school, the musicianship gained is entirely worth the effort. lt is through ensembles that the student learns how to play with better tone, timing, and musical quality. The ensembles were active second semester presenting programs, participating in community functions, and going to music festivals. An emphasis was placed on improving the chorus' ability to sight read, in prepa- ration for state music festival. Although the group was short on tenors, it proved to be the successful chorus that has become a CHS tradition. Homecoming Is . .. Football . l Q The 1968 Caldwell High School Homecoming, Bluejay Olympics, officially began with the reg- istration of alumni Friday afternoon in the main hall. Mrs. Sy Bradfield, alumni president, presided at the afternoon session. Alumni showed their school spirit by purchasing mums from the Kayettes. After the alumni were welcomed by Supt. Don Goff, the junior-Senior Ensemble sang Smile Darn Ya Smile and Moments to Remember. The alumni joined the girls in singing the school song. The seniors were invited to come to the Friday afternoon session which was highlighted by a Laugh, ln prepared and presented by 20 members of the class of 1953. After school was dismissed the floats were paraded f '7 if E 2' L4 , S' 'Kr jk wg - f se down Main Street following the high school Marching Bluejays. The queen candidates--Louise Roth, Mary Rezac, Bonnie Schoonover, Patty Shoffner, Christy Ferguson, and Mary Fortmeyer--waved to the crowd from convertibles. Members of the Pep Club snaked their way down Main Street and concluded the parade with a pep rally. The Bluejays met the Harper Bearcats in the Home- coming foootball game with the Bearcats spoiling the Jays' Homecoming by a 32-O defeat. Following the game the students and their guests enjoyed an After-the-game-dance in the grade school gymnasium. Student Council sponsored the highly successful dance. 1 l l A gni ,2', . 5 sk T ,.
