Much of the huge load of running the school system is placed in the hands of Mrs. Betty Tidwell, secretary to the superintendent, and Miss LaRae Foster, secretary to the principal. Mrs. Edith Walt, school nurse, assists by giving tests to students that may prevent future Worries to parents, and also caring for students With everyday problems. ln the CHS kitchen were cooks Velma Tomasek, Alma Koehler, Rose Elmore, Emma Fast, and Sarah Sprague Who had the task of trying to feed the 500 students of District 360. Their pizza was a huge success! Other non-teaching personnel are the custodians. They Work long, hard hours making the school look clean and neat at all times. The custodians were Gerald Eellingham, Ernie Schmidt, and Clifford Murdock, with Alvin Strong replacing Ernie Schmidt in February. MRS. BETTY TIDWELL MISS LaRAE FOSTER ALMA ROSE EMMA VELMA KOEI-ILER ELMORE FAST TOMA SEK MRS. EDITH WALT If S. 3 SENIO RS Seniors Reininisee Of Days At C.H.S. The Class of '68 entered Cald - well High School with forty -nine members. Through their high school years this number dwindled to forty- three. Mrs. Cox and Mr. Roberts were class sponsors during their fresh- man year, Sponsoring during their sophomore year were Miss Walker, Mr. Wilt, and Mr. Lamberson. Overseeing the class their junior year were Mrs. Reeder, Miss Blay- lock, and Mr. Pliler. As seniors, they were sponsored by Miss Evelyn Rees, Clinton A. Wilt, and Verl Misak. The class was named Class of the Year during halftime ceremonies of the home- coming game. STUCO Representa- tive, Larry Lacey presented the plaque to Vonette Gettings, class treasurer. A major concern of many seniors was in choosing a college to further their education. Several students took various scholarship tests and had conferences with the counselor concerning this important decision. One highlight of the year was the Senior Assembly which was pre - sented to the student body by the seniors. The class history was re- vealed and predictions of the future years were made during this sad but impressive assembly. Commencement Exercises were held in the new gym on Thursday, May 23, 1968. These exercises marked not only an end to high school days, but a beginning of the future. This year the Kay Club was 77 men strong. Besides painting the parking lot, they sold Bluejay car tags and light bulbs, and conducted a cerebal palsay drive. The club presented the Thanksgiving Program for the school and sponsored the annual Christmas dance. The club also planned an all school party held during second semester. This year the club Worked toward their 2,000 point award. Mr. Loren Kuehny served as Kay sponsor. 'fi ' 5-fi f The purposes of the CHS Pep Club were to support the Bluejays, exhibit good sportsmanship, and to boost the morale of the teams. ln reaching these goals the Pep Club sponsored a success- ful bonfire before the first football game of the season. Another project was the decorated car which was entered in the Sumner County Fair Parade. The entry, which was to encourage merchants and townspeople to support the Jays, won second prize in the parade. We feel as though our Pep Club has reached its goals for this year. Sixteen of the hardest working members had the privilege of attending the State F. H. A. meeting in Topeka. The Caldwell F. H. A. had the honor of hosting the District I Election. One of the highlights of National F. H. A. Week was a Mother-Daughter Banquet. The F. H. A. provided a very impressive Easter Program for the student body. We hope that this year of F. H. The idea of presenting the annual Christmas vespers in the gym was developed because of the need for more room. After much practice, the vespers were cancelled because of a flu epidemic in the school. With some difficulty, the group obtained new pink blouses. Despite the fact that the blouses were of different shades, the girls wore them proudly. The CHS glee club worked hard to prepare two songs for music festival, Snow Legend, and Evening Song. Several other songs were prepared, for the spring concert on April 30. With the help of the talented and efficient accompanists, Mary Lowe and Kathy Kloef- korn, Mrs. Krenek was very happy with the singing sound of the glee club. 56 2 Z -, E ff A I L, i Q., A F K -. - Q Q 1 5 gi ., 1 L sr fi M Q- ' we x if -. The annual staff worked hard and put a lot of time into the 1968 Bluejay to meet the three dead- lines needed to earn the Big E award. Co-editors Dorothy Evans and Vonette Gettings, and Mrs. Reeder, advisor, are due much credit to the success of the Bluejay by giving the staff a push when necessary. Verne Ryland again served as yearbook photographer. The jay journal was one of the most successful in past years. The all-girl staff gave a different approach to school news with Mrs. Reeder as advisor. The sports stories proved to be a challenge to the girls, but that didn't stop them. Deadlines were met and the latest news went to press on time. A special thanks goes to Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Stiles of the Caldwell Messenger who publish the jay journal with- out charge. Each student was assigned a homeroom and the teachers rotated to the four rooms. Mrs. Morrison taught math to both fifth and sixth graders. Teaching English was Mrs. Broadie. Science was taught by Mrs. Goltry, and Mrs. Irene Wirtz taught social science. Mrs. Goldsmith was the physical education instructor. Music instruction was given by Mr. Dusek and Mrs. Krenek, With this new set-up, the sixth graders will not find it so difficult when they enter the seventh grade next year, 81 4 l .Q L V --:ro aw ' 4' -. v -1 ml., ww, ,.,,., WT, n N 1 , , ia, A.,ZA . ffm. if Af .af -eff Q Aim , , ,, 1, '- , , f 1 ,if Q-S , , nw .f I .J , :jg-gd : -.-f z,,, My 'M M nb , Z , o H ,, .. S. , l968, will soon partake in our long awaited commencement exercises. Our commencement will be our last gathering as a class. Some of us will laughg some, cry. No matter what out- ward attitude we may express, most of us have an inner regret. Many of us have spent our high school years at C. H. S. It is here that we grew up. It is here that we learned, and here that we made friends. It is hard for one to accept the fact that he will notreturn next fall as one of the familiar faces in the crowd of students who line the lower hall of C. H. S. on a chilly morning. We do many trivial things now and do not think about them, but in the future we will cherish the remembrance of the things we did as students of C. H. S. As we enter into the world of young, as well as that of old, adults, we hope that those we leave be- hind at C. H. S. will strive to keep our school among the best and make us proud to have been a part of it. 467' X fly 5 of! !',l If sq 'E' 6, U Pc, W, Af' CQ, 7 C, ' Q Af haf , '7 Me P :AY Sf, . 63am 4117!
