It” ' 1 ' ni u! xTuUi, Amui {liiimm W. Caldwell Community College is you ... it is what you make it; others have supported, attended and learned to become a part of it. This is your year at CCC . . . make it the best . . . make it one filled with fun, love, enthusiasm, cooperation and attainment. No one can achieve goals for you ... let CCC come alive make it YOUR school. 4 5 TIME IS A FLOWING RIVER. HAPPY THOSE WHO ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE CARRIED. UNRESISTING. WITH THE CURRENT. THEY FLOAT THROUGH EASY DAYS. THEY LIVE. UNQUESTIONING. IN THE MOMENT . . . C. Morley. The time of school drags by with waiting and dread, with nothing but dreary things. O loneliness, O leaden waiting-out time . . . And then out . . . O miraculous time, O waiting-out of time, O loneliness. Randall Jarrell 13 You are a competitor . . . It ' s called SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST ... In this game you ' re all alone . . . it ' s all up to you . . . whether you ' re in the classroom, on the football field, or the basketball court . . . sometimes you win . . . sometimes you lose . . . It ' s glory or defeat, but never both . . . Some hate it . . . some love it . . . but either way it ' s always there. 14 15 I They are people also . . . Both faculty and staff members enjoy relaxing and laughing . . . They have times of seriousness but they also have times of relaxation and enjoyment . . . get to know them and you ' ll find they are no different from you. 17 Student Government Association Brian Crisp, President Jim Sullivan, Vice President Sandy Pritchard, Secretary-Treasurer Maria Burris, Glenda Byrd, Barry Warren, Dennis Whittington, Billy Marr, Eric Parsons, Eric Harrison, Monteen Hass, Karen Hass, Gail Greer, Janet Brookshire (alternate), and George Robbins (alternate). 20 PLATFORM OF OFFICERS To implement good financial man- agement techniques in order to best utilize all funds available to the SGA. Manual skills are developed in prac- tical shop work using components mounted on stands. Thorough un- derstanding of the operating prin- ciples involved in the modern auto- mobile comes in class assignments, discussion, and shop practice. Di- agnosing and repair work is assigned on scheduled vehicles. 80 81 Business Administration Washington or ' Bust ' ! 82 The graduate of the business administration curriculum may ' enter a variety of career op- portunities from beginning sales person or office clerk to manager trainee. The duties and responsibilities of this graduate vary in different firms. These encompassments might include; making up and filing reports, tabulating and posting data in various books, sending out bills, checking cal- culations, adjusting complaints, operating various office ma- chines, and assisting managers in supervising. Positions are potentially available in busi- i ness; advertising, banking, credit, finance, retailing, wholesaling, hotel, tourist, and travel industry, insurance, transportation, and communi- cations. 83 College Transfer The pre-professional curricula parallel in content those programs offered by most four-year institu- tions. CCC offers the Associate in Arts or Science Degree in these areas: General Education Curriculum Pre-Business Administration Pre-Business Education Pre-Engineering Pre-Liberal Arts Pre-Recreational Pre-Science Pre-Teaching— Elementary and Secondary 84 85 Cosmetology Today the cosmetologist is called upon to advise men and women on problems of make- up, diet, and care of the hair, skin and hands, including the nails. Cosmetology has become a science consisting of the use of cosmetics based on scientific principles. The cosmetology curriculum is designed to pre- pare the student for employ- ment in the field of cosme- tology. The curriculum pro- vides instruction and practice in manicuring, shampooing, permanent waving, facials, mas- sages, scalp treatments, hair shaping, and styling. This cur- riculum is approved by the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners. 86 87 Data Processing The ability to process large quantities of information at high speed is a necessary pre- requisite for modern technical achievements. Electronic and electromechanical systems, illustrated by the digital computer, are the most important tools for information pro- cessing; and they perform many commercial and scientific tasks too complex or too lengthy to be accomplished by manual oper- ations alone. Electronic data processing is that science dedicated to the solution of human prob- lems by automatic means. These problems assume a wide variety. Computers are used for such endeavors as the maintenance of business records, the solution of mathe- matical and engineering problems, the con- trol of industrial processes and tools, and the evaluation of data and languages in such fields as social science, humanities, and lin- guistics. 88 89 Drafting and Design 90 91 Furniture Production The purposes of this program are the following: 1 . Better performance of the student on the job. 2. Train for a specific pro- duction or staff job in local furniture industry. 3. Train for jobs in pro- duction operations. 4. Knowledge of supervis- ory responsibilities as they apply to produc- tion requirements. 5. Knowledge in specific elements of technical operations. 6. Understanding the prin- ciples of organization and production oper- ation of the furniture industry. 92 93 « i I i Library Technology The library technical assistant pro- gram is designed to prepare persons for employment in various types of libraries — public school, hospital, government, and industry. The curriculum provides a background of general education and basic li- brary skills to prepare interested students to enter library work a- bove the minimum clerk status. It also introduces a variety of library experience into which a trained per- son may enter, suiting abilities to the particular job. The library courses would be helpful as back- ground for students desiring to en- ter the professional library field and the business courses could provide a good background for further busi- ness training. Thus, the graduate of the library technical assistant pro- gram may enter a variety of career opportunities. 94 Practical Nursing GPEATEp Nursing Class Officers: Left to Right: Mrs. Mary Louise Marion, Instructor; Betty Battle, Treasurer; Charlotte Whisnant, President; Lynne Mason, Vice President; and Avanna Lip- ford, Secretary. 96 1970 Recipients of McNairy Scholarships: Left to Right; Betty Battle, Avanna Lipford, Jeannie Corpening, Priscilla Hartley, Pamelia Abernathy, Nancy Stanley (Instructor), Juanita Bradford, Alma Greer, Connie Edmisten, Gladys White and Barbara Parsons. 97 Recreational Therapy This curriculum is designed to provide recreational therapy technicians to work with the handicapped on the leader- ship or activity level. Major emphasis of the curriculum is placed on developing specific activity skills in arts and crafts, sports and games, music, drama, dance, and so- cial recreation. The curri- culum also provides courses which develop the students ' understanding of the limita- tions and abilities of the handicapped as well as the techniques and skills in the adaption of recreation activ- ities. Student placement in various settings (hospitals for mentally ill, mentally retard- ed, alcoholic, community recreational programs) is also an integral part of the pro- gram. 98 99 I Secretarial Science The demand for better qualified secretaries in our ever-expanding business, industry, government, and professional world is becoming more acute. The purpose of these curricula is to outline a training program that will provide training in the accepted procedures required by the business, industrial, and professional areas and to enable persons to become proficient soon after employment in their par- ticular field. 100 101 Welding The content of this curriculum is designed to give students sound understanding of the principles, methods, techniques and skills es- sential for successful employment in the welding field, and skills es- sential in metals industry. 102 103 Adult Education General Courses ESifl 4 yj c fi ' If Who ' s Who Jean Church Linda Day Gloria Early Elaine Ferguson Zelma Foutz Sandy Greene Harold Hayes Terry Patterson John Setzer Administrative Staff Dr. Edwin Beam President William Deloach Assistant to President Hugh Almond Dean of Business Affairs George W.
