CLASS HISTORY HE cherxshed day has finally 'xrrnved on whlch we the class of 1974 are to Graduate ln order that the hlstory of thls lllustrnous class shall be known to those who come after us and our accomplxshments be kept as a mark for others to a1m at we shall endeavor to glve you an account of thls unusual roup of young people Cn a certain day nn early September lf-P70 fifteen meek and bashful 1 reshmen assembled m the halls of the C U H S cletermmed on making a record for themselves It was not long before the upper classmen reallzed what we were and after a dclwhtful receptlon they ladly lnltlated us mto the mysterles of high chool lxfe Our Freshmen and Sophomore years were rather uneventful Outslde of a few of our members taklnv part m some of the school vames and programs the years were marked by no Oreat occurrences However while we were sxttmv back we vverc quretly watching the actlons of our upper classmates so that we would be more than fltted for the ln our unxor year we flrst began to show our qualltres as a real class 0ur m mbers occuplecl prominent posltxons 1n school affalrs Thre of them secured posltlons for themselves on the dcbatvnv teams whlle several others starred ln school frames Our Senlor year has even been more eventful Soon after school commenced our class called a meetmv and chose Horace Mccomble for nts Class Presxdent and oseph Sllverla secretary lmmedlately the class agreed on assummg the burden of I'8lSlIl0' the funds necessary to publxsh the school annual and through a serles of plays they soon ralsed the sufflclent sum of money Our members took part 1n all the school actlvltles throughout the ye xr so we feel that we have ended our hugh school car er rn a worthy manner PAW 3 QM We were twelve now we are nme When the schools are solldated Back us then we ll need a vate To keep the teacher under dated Don t be snappy llttle teacher We can tell who s most to bl une Cn hls f rave and handsome features Gunlt ns wrltten just the same ' l' 1 I v A . - ' ' D . ' ' . 1 . y ml - 1 - - 1 ' f. xr, 1 A rtxxzr ix ,Q,,:, Q. ,-. zmly ' fi mon as Ib 1 , 1 1 ' li-sri 2 ,rf nan, lly CLASS PROPH ECY NE sultry afternoon lwas slowly walkmg down a narrow and less frequented street of Calro wnshmg something would happen so as to break the monotony of the dull afternoon To travel had at one time been my chlef yearnmg but now that l was a Uenume Globetrooter l found that the wanderlnv that takes one from dearest frlends IS not the most deslrable As l sauntered along l was attracted by a sxgn whlch read Fortune Telllnv Although that sort of thing seemed to me to be foollsh something prompted me to enter the doorway The room m which l found myself was small ln the center of the room was seated a seeress holdmg a large glass crystal She motnoned me to a seat m front of her and bade me look mto the glass At flrst the crystal was dark but llttle by llttle lts color chanvecl and figures began to take shape The following serles of wonder were revealed before my eyes It was the mternor of one of the fmest and most beautxful theatres ln New York Apart from the wonderful architecture of the bulldmg l took speclal notlce to the audxence They seemed to be held m rapt attentlon and admlratxon was wrltten on thelr faces l then turned my attention to the performers who l noticed was a singer and her vlolm accompamest There seemed to be somethlng famlllar about both the noted persons although l could not place them To my surprlse l found upon lookmg closer the noted prlma donna was none other than Agnes Snyder and her v1ol1n1st Lloyd Grave It was then l remembered the fact that we had had some unusual muslcal talent ln the Semor Class of l924 The figures faded from my slght and another picture took its place l was looklng at the sport page of the San Franclsco Examiner A head lme across the top of the page read My Years on the Diamond by Fred D Cuneo famous coast leaguer ust xmaglne my surprise Fred at one time editor of the l974 Sr-:ull now wrltlng for the sport page of the Examiner The next scene was the mterlor of a large factory ln Massachusetts A contented group of glrls were bu lly engaged ln thelr work From the snatches of conve satlon one could s e that p ace relvned here A figure was approachlng the gurls faces were turned ln respect and admiration Who could thls person be that comnaal ded the attentlon of such a large group? Frlends lll not keep you m suspense lt was Carrie Tlllmen She was the Girl s Welfare Advlsor ln tne largest factory ln Massachusetts What IS th1s3 Fog but lt IS clearlng away A large battleshlp comes mto vlew maklng a beautlful and thrllllng plcture plowlng through the green waves with nts Guns flashlnv ln the sunlight l wondered why the crystal was showmg me this but for some reason It seemed to be focused on the budge There was somethmv famlllar about the young mldshlpman and when h turned around to gave an order to one of l 1s men l could see hrs features plalnly Sure enough l could not mxstak that red halr anywhere lt was ames Casey l never thought he would choose the llfe on the brmy deep l next saw the mterxor of a school room where every llttle head was burned deeply mto a book That must be a remarkable teacher l sand to myself Such order 1n a schoolroom l always thought lmposslble l looked warn and recovmzed Ellzabeth lVlcFall l was no longer surprlsed for we all knew she was one member of our class who would be a success The busy lnttle workroom dxsappeared and the next figure revealed to my eyes was that of a min seat d ln a dark ancl dreary laboratory He was slowly stlrrm a mnxture m a test tube The room was Hllecl with dirty test tubes bearers etc showmg that he had been laborm strenuously over some experrment Later nt was revealed that the man had successfully perform d an experlment that all the scientists m the world laid been trym ll v . . . .. U . 2 U - . -1 :a C . -4 g 1 l to solve l tools '1 better 'ook xt th younff man and to my surpnse recognnzecl htm as my old friend and schoolmate Horace lVlcComble Here was another mcmber of the Class of 24 who had rrade good m the world The next scene brour' t to my vxslon caused me profound wond r l focused my cry tal carefully 'xrd djusted xt several txmes It was a neat llttle wlute house wnth a neat little plcket fence Srttmg ln a comfortable rocklns, chalr very basxly engaged m lilllttlflg was our old friend VIOIH Nuner MISS Whale above her at Pol the parrot her one and only companlon murrnurxng contentedly Tnls rs tne lmfe this lS the llfe The sad plcture of a lonesome old maxd faded from View and the next picture of perfect domestlc tlanqurlxty showed a flttmg contrast and helped to atone for the pathetlc one above Clara Guttlnger a sweet blushln maxd of our class of Z4 was wo d and won after a thrlllmg romance All mdlcatlons lead to tney llved happily ever afterward The lnternatnonal typmv Contest was rn full progress and foremost among the contestants was a famlllar Hgure Was lt poss1ble3 Wlth certlhcates bulglng from hls po kets and with bronze medals sllver medals gold medals ln fact the Whole family of m dals adornmg the front of hrs coat sat FIHDCIS Dragomanovlch This wlll not be a surprise to hls frlends because FYSDCIS record as a typxst was well establlshed ln Hugh School My attentlon was next dlverted to one of New Yorks most excluslve shops where lVladams every deslre would be gratlfled There l found Lllllan asper satlsfylng the wants of society s matrons and debutantes There IS no need to dwell on the fact that Lrlllan had been ucces ful for the Shop spoke for Itself l was next enjoylng an exciting game of football There was one player ln partlcular who claxmed my attentlon He was playmg fullback and though he was not very large he seemed to be making all the touch downs for hls slde l wondered whom he could be but my curlosrty was soon satlsfxed as some people on the Grandstand were dlscussmg htm Hls name IS ohn Cavagnaro someone was saylng He was one of the racluates from the Calaveras Union High ln 1974 The command Count off One Two etc fell upon my ears and l turned my crystal so as to see from whence these Words came There was a great number of hlgh school gxrls taklng gymnaslum and l was rather astonished to see the sp1r1t they put mto It l turned my attentlon to their athletlc lnstructor Surely l have seen that p rson somewhere thought l and she faced me l found lt to be lrene Zwlnge She was Athletic Instructor of a large school and the glflCS were able to carry away all the honors ln the lnter school meets due to the tramlng ablllty of their lnstructor The next plcture revealed to my eyes bewlldered me Would wonders never cease3 oseph Sllverla had one to college and had become a preacher Reallzlng the wlckedness and trlals of the world he declcled to spend has lxfe trying to uplift hls fellowmen He spent hrs tlme preachlng good to the ev1l and lmpressmg upon them the fact of do as l say not as l do l began to wonder what had become of Ernest Baclgalupl the only member of the class of 24 who had not been accounted for But sure before long he too appeared before my eyes Ernest had recently broken ln at Hollywood After graduatmv from Calaveras UHIOH High School Ernest ment to San FIHHCISCO where he met a younv actress and after a romantlc courtshlp resulted ln a happy marrlaffe Ernest then decided to be an Actor and he and hls lOVll'lU wlfe were successful ln taklng part rn a bug play ' I . .
