M uslc News At the begxnmng of the year the music groups elected the followzng officers Band Presmdent Kay Hansen Vice President Loren Christensen Secretary Treasurer, Frances Olson Socnal Chaxrman J1m Horstmann Mxxed chorus President Jim Horstmann Vice Presxdent Bob Hansen Secretary Treasurer, Betty Mxller Socxal Chaxrman Dwain Goettsch The orchestral mstruments were zntroduced and explained to us by Don Ocklemann of Cornell College in a very interesting way A hayrxde for all the muslc students was much enjoyed by all of us We went to the timber and had a wxener roast and then we all joined in singing songs At the carnival a group presented Flashbacks of 1949 50 whxch included the Four Frohckmg Females of the Flammgo Club, much enjoyed by all The foursome was made of Loren Chnstensen Gary Braet, Jxm Byerly, and Jan Chrnstensen A pep band was organized to play at the home basketball games The members of this are Jan Chrzstensen Lowell Gage Arla Mae Olson Betty Mxller Robert Hansen Louzse Vetter Meryne Mueller Mary Ann Sheldahl Jim Horstmann Hilda Mae Sheldahl Frances Olson Donna Olson and Loren Chrxstensen As a moneymaking project, the Musxc Boosters Club sponsored a box social preceded by a band concert D Gohlman was auctloneer A tidy sum of one hundred dollars was cleared whlch was used toward the purchase of the band uniforms are royal olue and the trousers white They made their fir st appearance ln their new umforms at a basketball game in Wheatland Our Chrlstmas program was held December 18th A band concert was held fmrst followed by a grade school chorus the boys chorus, beginner s band girls chorus and mixed chorus Soloxsts were Helen Kle1nsm1th Karen Schwennsen, Gary Braet Lonnee Milnes Jim Hor stmann and Betty Miller Four members sang ln the All State Chorus at Des Momes during the Thanksgiving vacation They were Betty Mlller, Jean Hansen Bob Huetter and Loren Christensen On Wednesday evening January 10th the Musmc Boosters Club met and voted to fxnance student entries m the sprlng muslc contests for transportation and registration fees A public food sale was held to finance expenses There IS usually a lull over at the music building between the Chnstmas program and the sprxng contests so on February 26th, we gave our Gay Nzneties Show Since there was no place ln Calamus wxth a stage to glve it on we had to present xt mn the new Wheatland gym nasxum The productxon was called Around The Clock In Gay Nineties Time and featured many varxety acts The proceeds went toward robes for the choruses We had a lot of fun dlgging up the costumes and rehearsing the songs and we hope you enjoyed seeing it By the time you have thas yearbook you will know all about who went out for contests and what were the results Right now we are wamtlng to see what groups have worked hard enough to warrant thexr competnng wnth other schools mn their class for the contest Although we lost some good sxngers from oar gxrls sextet last year we gamed many more good ones Thns year s sextet was composed of Betty Mxller Lonnee Milnes, Jean Hansen Arla M Olson Meryne Mueller and Mary A Sheldahl This year, Betty and Jean will leave the sextet after havxng been in xt four years The boys quartet was composed of Jim Horstmann Bob Huetter and Jan and Loren Christensen Bob Hansen was our accompanist again this year . . . ,, . - v H . up After much anxious waiting the band members received their new uniforms.
