Student Counc11 News The offxcers of our Student Councxl are as follows Presxdent Betty Miller Vxce Presxdent J1m Horstmann Secretary Treasurer Janelle Henmng and advisor Mr Court Our teacher representative to the Red Cross Cnty Council 15 lVl1ss O Toole and student representatxves are Betty Miller and Janelle Henmng These meet ings are held ln Chnton once a month The Student Council sponsors a suggestion box Pxng pong and checker tournaments and had charge of the Chrxstmas party School Carmval The first b1g event thls fall was the school carmval Soon after school began the teachers and the pupxls were all busy gettmng ready for the big mght of September 29th The Home Economxcs g1rls under the dxrectzon of M1ss Hansen served delxcious chxcken pxe supper from 6 00 P M to 7 30 P M The program began at 7 30 Each one of the grades presented a separate program ln 1ts own room The h1gh school musxc groups under the dmrectlon of Mxss Hulse presented Flashoacks of the 1949 1950 school year Meanwhlle the halls were fllhng up wlth people shaking nolsemakers eatlng candy and xce cream cones and movxng from room to room Many of them Jomed ln the cake walk held In the J'-1D10l' high room sponsor ed by Mrs Haack and her seventh and exghth graders Most of the ch1ldren went f1sh1ng for pnzes m the f1sh pond Soon lt was t1me for the coronatzon of the Kang and Queen Everyone crowd ded mto the gymnasmm to see the ceremony The candldates for Klng and Queen were as follows .hm Horstmann Loren Chrxstensen Jamce Bruckmann and Kay Hansen Lxnda Stueland Karen Redal Merle Green and Alan Stamp were the crown bearers After Mr Christensen had announced the wxnners of the door prizes he reported that Jxm Horstxnann and Janice Bruckman had been chosen Klng and Queen respectlvely After the coronatlon a dance was held xn the gymnasxum to the musnc of the Rhythm Klngs The profxt on the entlre carmval was about four hundred dollars . . . . . . . - o v . . . . . . Imtxatzon Party After tormentxng the Freshmen for several days the Semors xnv1ted them and the entire hlgh school to an 1n1t1at1on party on Fr1day evenmg September Z2 1950 The Freshxes trxed 1n vaxn to quench a bonfire outsxde by spmttlng alum water on lt They were then taken down to the gymnaslum where they enjoyed eatxng lard sandwiches and ol1ves After each Freshman had put on an act mn front of the student body refreshments were served by the Semors followed by a dance Freshman Return Party The Freshmen 1nv1ted the entxre h1gh school and faculty to a hobo party on November 6 1950 Everyone came dressed as hoboes and the boys carr1ed a lunch for two txed m a handkerchxef on a stxck Games and stunts were enjoyed by all Then each boy was glven a partner to share h1s lunch w1th After everyone had eaten h1s lunch a dance was held m the seventh and e1ghth grade room Janelle I-Iennlng and Dwaxn Goettsch were judged the best dressed hoboes Christmas Party A jumor h1gh and h1gh school Christmas party was held on Fnday afternoon After dlnner the hxgh school students all met 1n the gymnasium for the gxft exchange whlle the jumor h1gh s udents had themr gxft exchange mn thexr home room The m1xed chorus then entertamned both junxor hxgh and hzgh school students w1th Chrlstmas carols wh1ch all were 1nv1ted to smg For the rema1nder of the afternoon relays Pmg pong and other games were played To end all this we were treated by the teachers Iunzors Honor Senzors On January 6 1951 the .Tumors entertamed the Sen1ors by g1V'1I1g a slezgh rxde The group met at the schoolhouse at 7 30 and then started on the1r way Afterwards the group went to Donna Olson s home where games and delxclous refreshments were thoroughly enjoyed by all Sock Hop On November 15th the .Tumor s held a sock hop party for the entmre hxgh school and the faculty startmng at 7 30 Each one was gxven a paper sock when he came Th1s was to determxne who we would eat lunch and dance the f1r st dance w1th For entertaxnment we played a s1ng1ng game and Truth or Consequences Then lunch was served followed by varxous kxnds of dances ll ll December ZZ, 1950. This was planned by the Student Council.
