THIRD GRADE School began August Z3 1948 after an enjoyable summer vacatlon Our class had an enrollment of thxrteen boys and fourteen girls After a few weeks we all became accustomed to our new routme and were workxng dxllgently wxth our usual readm .wrltln and rxthmetxc Geography was a new subject tlus year Our fxrst soczal actxvlty was a Halloween party Games and refreshments were enjoyed Before we were aware of txme passxng so quxckly Christmas was not many weeks away Our class wxth the assistance of the second graders and Mxss Cruson presented a carol servmce and playlet entztled On Chrxstmas Eve as our part of the Chrxstmas program Our Chrxstmas tree, a glft from Richard Armstrong added much to the pleasure of our party When our hollday festlvxtles at school were ended we really felt we deserved a mce vacatxon Wxth February came St Valentine s Day We decorated our Valentlne box and began fxllmg xt w1th gay greetings for each other Our party w1th 1ce cream centered wlth a red heart and cookxes was the cllmax of the day From thxs txme on most of our t1me was spent studymg and preparlng for our next year s work FOURTH GRADE On August Z3 1948 tlurty one boys and gxrls entered the fourth grade wxth Mxss Shelton as our teacher Just as we got used to callmg our teacher Mlss Shelton we had to change to Mrs Stankee as she was marrxed October 30 We gave her an Aladdln lamp as a weddlng gxft On November 5 we sang a group of songs wxth fxfth and slxth grades for the program at the carnival December Z3 we took part ln the all school Christmas program We gave a choral readmg playlet entxtled The Plot to Kxdnap Santa The mam parts were played by Marvel Swensen Maryanne LaFayette and Patrlcla Galntz who were the gxrls who trxed to kldnap Santa who was Robert Bruckman One evening at the end of the school year our room was open at the school exhlblt to show varlous thmgs we made durxng the year We have had several partles xn school Halloween Chrxstmas and Valentine Games and refreshments were enjoyed at all of these partles At the begxnnnng of the second semester James and Ieannene Kuehl joxned our room Davld Kageman moved xn February to Charlotte After a hard year of study we are all lookxng forward to an enjoyable vacation and next fall talung another step ln our education ladder to the fxfth grade Z0 I I v - . . . ,, . , . . , , . . ,, . n I 1 . . 1 Q - - ua ' II - I I I I . n . . , . . . - I , .
