SENIOR PROPHECY In the year 1980 as some frxends and I were cruxslng down the South Creek 1n our motor boat we became stalled on a sand bar and thought xt best to look for some asslst ance We swam to shore and from the top of the bank we dxscovered a farmer plowmg hls corn w1th an alrplane He stopped and offered h1s assistance and we soon recognized hxm as our old classmate none other than Frank Forret After tallung to hun awhlle about old txmes we contlnued on our way After travelmg several mlles we stopped at Syracuse Inn for the nxght As we entered we met Dxck Johnson who mformed us that he was now proprletor of the Inn and had branches all over the Umted States We retlred for the mght and upon r1s1ng the next mormng continued on our Journey Dxck offered us h1s Jet Stud1e but we decided we had better walk After walkmg for about an hour, we came to a farm house and thought we would stop to mquxre about who lxved there To our surprlse another classmate Iordls Vetter now Mrs Green came to the door wzth three bashful chlldren hangmg on her sk1rt We sat and talked for awhlle and learned that Louxs Morgan who had marr1ed hls teen age sweetheart, Mary Eden, now lxved on a ranch out West She also told us that Marlm As we entered the town of Calamus we notlced a man sxttmg 1n the shade of a tree ln front of a beautlful home He looked famlhar so we declded to get a closer look at hlm Guess who xt was? None other than Loren Kenyon He told us that he was marrled to J'oAnn Ahrens and that she had such a good Job that he dldn t want her to qu1t workxng so of course he dxdn t work After talklng to h1rn for awh11e we noticed a strlng of cars gomg toward the Calamus Stadlum Loren told us that Terry Schwennsen a second Babe Ruth was puttmg on an exhxbltlon on how to play baseball that afternoon Suddenly there came the noxse of barkmg dogs and screarnmg cats Evxdently It was Dorothy Porth s cats and Dorxs Easton s dogs having a nexghborly fxght Later we learn ed that Dorothy and Dorzs were old malds After vxsxtxng the Class of 49 we thought xt a good xdea to return to good old cxvxlxzatxon Unknown 8 Hoffmann, a well known bachelor, was a neighbor of hers.

SENIOR NEWS On August Z0 1945 we, the Senxors of 49 started as green Freshxes wxth thxrteen members and Mlss Stuzt was appomted class sponsor The class members were Dons Easton Betty Busch Lo1s Busch J'ord1s Vetter Shlrley Goodall Dorothy Porth D1ck Johnson Terry Schwennsen Loren Kenyon Duane Davlsson FIHHCIB Forret Marlm Hoffman and Leroy Stexnes The class offxcers chosen at the begxnmng of the year were President Francxs Forret Vice Presxdent Loren Kenyon, Secretary Terry Schwennsen Treasurer J'ord1s Vetter The class was properly xmtxated mto Calamus I-hgh School by the Sophomore Class on August 31 Dorothy Porth and Duane Davlsson won flrst place ln the costume contest A few weeks later we entertained the Sophomores the hxgh school and the faculty at our return party Durxng the year we lost one member of the class Shxrley Goodall who moved to Cedar Raplds On August Z4 1946 twelve pupils enrolled ln the Sophomore Class Betty and Loxs Busch and Leroy Stelnes left us durmg the year We gamed two new members JoAnn Webb from Davenport Iowa and Louxs Morgan from Kansas City Mlssourx We chose September 13 1946 to 1mt1ate the Freshman Class That mght we enter The class offxcers were Presldent Loren Kenyon Vxce Presxdent Terry Schwennsen Secretary Dorothy Porth and Treasurer Dorxs Easton Mrs J' O Mecklenburg was chosen class sponsor When school reopened August Z0 1947 we began our Jumor year Th1s year we had the smallest class xn hlgh school There were three gxrls and elght boys but during the year Loren Kenyon and Jerry Dolan dropped out leavxng a total of mne After many weeks of practxce we presented our three act play Auntle s Money on October 31 1947 For our .Tumor Semor Banquet we chose a cxrcus theme The banquet was held at the Roosevelt Hotel lh Cedar Raplds, ln the Florentme Room Terry Schwennsen acted as toastmaster Speakers mcluded Louxs Morgan Geraldme Stueland 'Francxs Forret, Clarence Westphal Iordxs Vetter and Dorothy Porth After the banquet we went to a show at the Paramount Theater Terry Schwennsen was our class Presxdent, and Dxck Johnson was V1ce Presxdent Mr Westphal was our class sponsor We began our last year at Calamus, August Z3 1948 Loren rejoxned us and Duane Davxsson left us We chose 'Out of the Harbor Into the Deep Sea as our class motto Aqua and rose were our class colors For our flower we chose varxegated plnk carnatxons Jordxs Vetter was chosen as Valedxctorxan and Terry Schwennsen was Salutatorxan 7 tained the entire high school and faculty at a party.
